We have critter cages on our feeders with decently thick wire, but some of the larger coons are able to break the wire and then get into the feeder and mess it up. Does anyone have an idea how to prevent this besides shooting the coons with a .22 or trapping?

One idea we considered was wrapping the legs in a large pvc pipe so the raccoons could not get a grip to climb the legs. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

I used a solar powered electric fence charger to keep coons and squirrels from getting into my feeder.

Putting carpet tack strips on the legs works, use the 3-4 foot tack strips. Hold them in place with zip ties.

My feeders are Moultrie. This homemade device keeps raccoons away from the spinner. It attaches with zip ties:

Stronger cages will do wonders. Some say the spike strips work and some say they dont. Fox or bobcat urine might work. Works for the bunnies in my garden.

My feeder shoots a 40ft swath of corn out so a cage does me no good. Ive got half a dozen fat racoons that visit every night. Might be time to make some hats.

I use self serve feeders set low enough that the weened fawns can get food. This means the raccoons can get in pretty easily. From looking at the pictures I am fairly comfortable saying that though the racoons get their fill but it appears that the deer are still getting the overwhelming majority of the food. I do shoot the raccoons anytime I get a chance but I don't sweat them getting some food from the feeders.

We use the 1" mesh around the complete bottom of the barrel so they cannot reach in there and spin it. Before we had it around the mech and they would hang on there and reach in there and spin it. Solved that problem but on occasion the hogs will bump the legs and knock corn out. Had to stake the legs into the ground to keep the hogs from knocking them out from under the feeder. Persistent critters trying to get a meal...

As I stated in my earlier post, I use a solar powered electric fence charger to keep the raccoons and squirrels out of my feeder. I connect wires to the legs of the feeder and one to a ground rod placed nearby. I have watched video of raccoons trying to climb the legs of my feeder only to jump off before they even get their hind legs off the ground. I once inadvertently touched a leg when filling the feeder, and i will say the shock was unpleasant.

My brother and his friend wish they had raccoon problems they have to buy another feeder to keep this guy away from the one he tore up.
Don't know if they got the new one yet.
