Tips for running a SAA Clone in a match

Your thread has me interested in shooting more. :D

I mean, come on! If even 1% of gunfights required having to do the hulu hoop before you can load you gun and engage targets, I would not go outside! (vid of this to come)

Say what? Youre doing a video of hula hooping before loading and shooting?

I saw a reference on another forum about hula hooping. It made me realize I was wasnt having nearly enough fun in my life. Not that a hula hoop would fix that, just the time/place/people in the video were having way more fun than I do.

We should all shoot more! :D

and yes. Hula Hoop!

One stage:
At the beep you had to draw your gun, place it on the table, pick up the hula hoop, do one rotation of hula, load gun (from rounds on the table. no ammo on belt), engage targets.
Before you can move to the next table (for more targets) you must unload and clear your piece (as if you would unload and show clear) and begin the process again.

Lots of fun!

"DON'T BRING A SAA TO A MODERN GUNFIGHT."

Could there possibly be a reason the FBI, the Secret Service, and most cops don't carry SAA's?

Jim

What police carry is irrelevant. Different missions, different mindsets, different tools. We run away from trouble, they run toward it. I am no less well-armed with a Colt SAA than the average Joe carrying a J-frame. Arguably better armed.

I would argue in favor of the SAA over the J frame. If I only get 5 rounds in a cylinder they may as well be the biggest, most accurate rounds I can throw down range.

While what police carry may not be relevant, and it is true that we run away from trouble (i am fast when it comes to running :)), it is also true that the world has more advanced technology these days.
I have to acknowledge that the modern (reliable) semi autos have a distinct advantage when stacked against a revolver (arguably even a DA).

Now can a SAA carrier make all 5/6 shots count? I am certain that there are guys out there even today! Heck if that's all I had or had ever trained on, you can bet I would learn it well.
But I know that I am not that guy. I want as many rounds as I can get when it comes to two legged critters.

There are better tools for gunfighting, but if I had a single action when things went sideways, I certainly wouldnt mentally defeat myself and just give up because somebody elses gun reloads faster.

That's a stance I can get behind.

I agree wholeheartedly. Heck, if a sharp stick is all I have, you can bet I will make the best use of it.

Now, my comment about bringing an SAA to a gunfight was not really meant to be taken seriously.

But I did say 'bring'. Like on purpose. Intentionally. I could say the same sentence about a thousand things that I wouldn't bring to a gun fight. I would bring the best tools I have. and while I love the SAA, I would not choose it to bring to a gunfight.

I would bring an A-10 Warthog...
Or short of that, a semi auto rifle. Or short of that, a semi auto pistol. Short of that, the SAA. Short of that, a sharpened pencil...

... Short of that, something made by Kel-Tec. :D

(there is a guy were I work that actually said that about the pencil and the Kel-Tec. Its posted now. It still makes me laugh)

IMHO, it is entirely dependent upon the person wielding it. If 90% of my shooting is done with SA's and I consciously work to be proficient with them, would I really be better armed with a double stack 9mm???

You might have something here.
I am fairly certain that an experienced SAA shooter is better off than the novice semi-auto shooter.

Now, I have found that the more difficult skills that I learn (like DA trigger pulls, etc) have positively affected my other shooting skills. I wonder if it is the same for the guy going from the SAA to a double stack 9mm.

It would be fun to test this. I am thinking 5 targets at different ranges. Object is to neutralize all 5. GO! We would score based on time and hits. Maybe use the USPSA style scoring. I figure one hit of 45 colt is enough per target for this test.

BTW: the video is up! will post a new thread in just a bit!
