What is the largest charge of Titegroup that you have loaded and successfully fired in a .40SW? I am shooting about 4.5grains of Titegroup behind a 180gr FMJ Zero bullet using CCI 500 SP primers. It feels pretty much like factory ammo. The accuracy is better than factory. The data says between 4.2 and 4.5 are acceptable loadings. I do not intend to change my loading. However, for ****s and giggles, what is the most Titegroup that have you have packed behind your 180gr bullet?

Hodgdon data says 4.7 Titegroup is MAX with a 180 XTP and produces 978 FPS at 33,300 PSI.

They also say a lot of other powders they sell produces more velocity at lower pressure.

It's too fast for full power loads, and will quickly go off the charts if over-loaded even a little.

That's why I have never used Titegroup in .40 S&W.

Lets not. Stick with the data.

Titegroup, as posted, is not a good choice for even thinking of hot rodding the .40, much less actually doing it.

I load about 4.6 grains behind a 180-grain TC bullet. I will not go over that. If you try it you are asking to wear your gun in your face. Titegroup is a great powder, and about 90% of my pistol reloading is with Titegroup. However it is a very fast powder, it is great in what it is intended for, but once you start playing games with Titegroup it will quickly eat your lunch. It likes to run up towards the top of the load charts for cleanest burn. But once you hit that top of the chart load, it WILL build pressure very quickly and you won't like the result. I played some games with Titegroup for ***'s and giggles and wound up with some oval shaped 9mm cases- yes, the case head too, you could fit a large pistol primer in there- and I know now that messing with TG will burn you.

The .40 is even less forgiving than most cases, it runs right at the max from the start. That's why there is NO +P for .40 S&W.

I could not think of a worse combination to "***'s and giggles" around with than .40 and Titegroup. Unless you had some Norma R-1, maybe.
