I was wondering if anyone has a good load for .41Mag using Titegroup. I have some 210gr Sierra JHC that have performed really well on top of Blue Dot, but I love the performance I have gotten with Titegroup in .45 LC and would like to get similiar results in .41. Sierra's manual doesn't list the powder.

Sure EZred, and welcome to the forum by the way.:)
I'm putting 6.8 grains of TiteGroup, WLP primers, behind 210 grain Hdy XTPs in my .41 Magnums. I got the load from Hodgdon's 2006 Annual Manual. It's fairly mild. I've never chronographed it, but if I had to guess, it probably runs somewhere between 900 and 1000 fps from a 4" barrel. Those are the loads that are sitting in the Taurus revolver in the lower right hand drawer of this desk.

EZred, it can be used for light loads, but I don't think I'd part with an excellent bullet like the Sierra 210 to do it. Get some good cast bullets and give it a spin. You can reproduce the "Police Load" with a 210 gr. SWC doing 1000 FPS. Oregon Trails bullets are excellent, as well as many others.

I started with Blue Dot and the .41 Magnum Ruger Redhawk 27 years ago. I'm a fanatic! I switched to AA#9 about six years ago and it works even better for my high velocity loads.;)

Welcome to you and highmaster. It's always great to see .41 magnum men.

Yeah, CZ57 is right about that. I wouldn't waste expensive bullets like those Sierra's, or for that matter the Hornady XTPs I'm using, for light loads either. Except for the fact I got those XTPs for a song. I bought them on a closeout at a farm and ranch store. I bought every last box of them they had on hand - 800 bullets total, for a little over 40 bucks.
On the other hand, for full-house magnum hunting loads in my .41s, I prefer cast bullets. I use Cast Performance 250 grain WFNGC bullets over big charges of Lil'Gun.

800 for $40 is one of the better songs I've heard in a while, Sharps Shooter! And the XTP is a great bullet. I agree that you can do a lot of things well with a good cast bullet and recommend you guys try them if you haven't already. I haven't seen a .41 magnum that didn't like them. Sierra dropped one of my favorites and I used it on deer, the 220 gr. Tournament Master, the silhouette bullet, but I wouldn't hesitate to use the 210 gr. JHC or the XTP for deer.;)

Thanks for all the info!! I will give the XTPs a run in the next few weeks, I have had great success with the 124gr XTP in my .357SIG, and have loaded it for 38SPL, but for some reason my local outlets never have the XTP in .410 so it will have to be in my next midway order. I have been shooting cast bullets in my 45LC and 32H&R, but hadn't thought about looking for them. I heard good things about Cast Performance bullets which has been reinforced here, so I will give them a shot, as well as may some of the other powders.

Its great to see there is still a lot of interest in the .41Mag, most of my buddies give me grief, since they are dedicated 45LC or 44Mag fans. I noticed that there is a G&A article this month on the old Smith. Thanks again for all your notes.

Since we seem to have drifted a bit.....

I LOVE the XTPs in 41 mag. But I run them over enough blue dot to hit 1550 out of my 7.5" redhawks. Stout load for sure, but no danger signs at all. Accurate as a laser, AND flatter shooting than my 240 grain 44 mag loads by a good bit.

Also that XTP slug is tough enough it's still holding together well at that velocity.

Thanks for the idea to try Titegroup. I have some left over from the IPSC days I will try.

It is nice to know there are fellow .41 men out there.

.41Mag's Rule!

I know there are Bigger and Badder, but .41's are just less common.
The 270 of Magnum Revolvers.....<---*Thinking....well maybe used to be*

My .41 absolutely loves 2400.

While were on the topic, has anyone used Trail Boss on the .41? They have some data on their website for cast bullets, but I haven't yet used it in this caliber. It has been great for .44 & .45.

My 6.5" Model 57 was my duty gun for many, many years, before they made us carry Glock 22's. When busting burglars or other felons in the act, and they stare down that .41 barrel, they know instantly that they're not facing a .38 or 9mm. I've always loved my .41. It doesn't get fired as much now as it used to, but it's still one of my favorites.

I have used both TiteGroup and TrailBoss for target loads for the 41 mag.

Using the Berry 210 gr Plated bullets, my chronograph shows:

6.5 gr TrailBoss in 6.5" Ruger BH => 820 fps
6.5 gr TrailBoss in 4" S&W M58 => 760 fps

6.5 gr TiteGroup in 6.5" Ruger BH => 900 fps
6.5 gr TiteGroup in 4" S&W M58 => 820 fps

I am now using TrailBoss because a double charge will not fit in the case.
! These powders are NOT suitable for full power loads in the 41 mag. !

Have fun & be safe,
-Steve

srs: I don't use light loads, but it is very commendable that you point out that Trail Boss is a better than 50% load density powder, where a double charge would overflow the case! I'll sure keep it in mind!;)

Steve,

Thanks for posting the load data, I will certainly give it a try. I have really like the performance with Trail Boss so far.

Quick powders like TiteGroup will yield nice light loads for the 41.
The loads I mentioned are similar to standard 230 gr 45 ACP for ringing steel plates.
We plink with those alot... my wife uses the M58 for plinking.

If you like heavy loads, go with H110/W296 and an aggressive crimp on a jacketed bullet.
I use the Hornady XTP for deer hunting with a "full" load of H110 in the 6.5" Ruger. I don't post specific high end loads.

Use your manuals and work up carefully with your gun.
Start over if you change components.

Have fun & be safe,
-Steve
