I buy these cowboy load reloads from the local gun store, the guy told me he loads them with Titegroup, my wife loves this load. So I am trying to make it, starting off with 4.0 grain of Titegroup which is the load end.

Anyone else try a light load with this?

Update: I got the load from the Hogdon site, the Speer manual doesn't have a load for Titegroup. The Lyman manual shows a starting load of 4.3 gr, but it's a harder lead than Speer uses. I should be ok with the 4.0.

The Hodgdon data is for a CAST LSWC, as far as I know Speer bullets are soft swagged bullets.

That said you still should be fine with the start load Hodgdon give at 4.0 grains

I just do not care for TG especially in big cases, just make sure you powder charge is correct every time and no double charges! (hard to see in a big case)

I agree with you on the small charge in the big case. Always do the flashlight check. The things we will do for our wife's. She loves to shoot the gun, but only with the lighter loads. Now me, I use Unique for my midrange lead loads and BE-86 for my higher end copper plated loads.

No 700-X or AA #2. I have unique, but the last load I made my wife was a little heavier than she liked. I was trying this because it's what the guy at the lgs said he was using in his 44 spl cowboy loads. I am trying to mimic that. I will look for either if I can find it on the shelf, but I do need to burn the Titegroup, I have about 2 1/4 lbs of it and I use Bullseye in my 38spl and light load 357's. I do have AA#5, a half pound left I have been using for my heavier 357 loads.

"I buy these cowboy load reloads from the local gun store, the guy told me he loads them with Titegroup" Uhmmm you buy some guys reloads and let your wife shoot them!!!!!!!!:what::what::what::what::what: you must not like her much

He is a licensed ammunition manufacturer, sells them at the gun shows and in his store. He only uses new brass and has a full manufacturing area.

I've never been a fan of Titegroup but if it's a load she likes then by all means run with it.

My personal choice would be AA#2, 700x, or even WST(though load data may be scarce).

FWIW, I have loaded lots of 45 Colt 255 grain SWC with 700x. It was very clean, very soft shooting, and very accurate.

If I can find 700x I will give it a try. I get what I can find in powders, just usedup my AA#7 and N320. Down to AA#5, Titewad, Titegroup, Bullseye, Unique and BE-86.

I use 4.2gr. Titegroup with a handcast #429421(Keith) 255gr.+/- LSWC. Nice shooting round. Brass looks good after shooting. I watch carefully because Titegroup can be "spikey", or so, I have read. This is one of my standard target loads.

"...the Speer manual doesn't have a load for Titegroup..." That's because Hodgdon isn't owned by the same holding company. Won't have other company's products. Doesn't matter anyway. You load for the bullet weight, not the maker.
"...ok with the 4.0..." Yep, but 4.0 is just the starting load. You have to work up the load.

Speer are probably the softest bullets I've ever used. Your 4.0 starting load should be fine, but will probably also be close to your max load before you start seeing lead streaks in the barrel.
