I'm thinking about getting a left handed, lightweight, all weather 243. Stainless with a plastic stock. I'm not interested in the low end Savages or Rugers so it's looking like a Browning X-Bolt or Tikka T3X. Life's not hard but limited for left hand shooters. I have an X-Bolt and like it very much but there's a lot of cost difference between it and a Tikka.

This a long way to ask how is the quality of the Tikka plastic stock? I live at the edge of the Earth and have to order most guns sight un-seen. Is the stock stiff and solid feeling? Any pros or cons would be much appreciated.

TIA

I can't personally say for certain, but I own a Tikka T3 with a synthetic stock. IMO it is the best synthetic stock available on a factory rifle for less that $700. It doesn't flex, move, or bend. It feels very solid and stiff. Much better than the plastic Tupperware feeling stocks that comes on the savage, ruger, and Remington budget rifles.

My Tikka T3 is the most accurate factory barreled rifle I've owned.

CarJunkie, thanks for the feedback. As a follow up; it seems Browning's discontinued the left hand stainless models. I can't think of any other mid-priced guns that fit the bill. Guess I'll start looking for a deal on a Tikka.

Thanks very much.

I do not currently own a bolt action rifle. . .i know. . . I am working on it

I recently compared a tikka t3 to 3 different xbolts, and the bolt manipulation, bolt knob amd trigger in the tikka wins hands down. Very smooth and feels very well made.

I also have a Tikka T3 and an X-Bolt. The bolt on my T3 is smoother than the X-Bolt and I'd go as far as to say the Tikka probably is a tad more accurate, but not by much. I just significantly upgraded the glass on the X-Bolt and haven't shot it yet, so that might even them out.
