probably an old topic, but i just purchased a tlr-3 and like it thus far. Being a compact light you would think that it would sit further back. it doesn't though. I should have probably gone with the tlr-1. the tlr-3 was at an incredible price though.
Which do you guys prefer...really and why?

I use the TLR-1. It is more powerful, and I prefer the metal construction as opposed to the polymer.

But I actually use the TLR-1s so I get 160 lumens, vs. 135 with the TLR-1, vs. 90 with the TLR-3.

What gun do you have it mounted on?

And it's not that I'm knocking the TLR-3, it is a fine light and it will serve you well. They have just had a few problems and for that and the aforementioned reasons, I prefer the TLR-1 or 2 series.

This.

Unless your application really benefits from the smaller, slimmer profile of the TLR-3, the 1 is a better option, IMO. It's still pretty light weight, and is equally at home on rifles or handguns. The TLR-3 was made for subcompact handguns, but since the little guys are usually CCW weapons and CCW carry modes are not usually conducive to weapon mounted lights, I see it as having very limited usefulness compared to it's bigger brother.
