I’m looking for a retro AR - a pencil barrel carbine, slick side A1 upper - Colt 654 style. CAR-15. Etc.

TNTE - Top Notch Top Ends keeps coming up in my searches. Does anyone here have any experience with them?

My hesitance after reading their website and some of their feedback elsewhere is probably going to keep me from patronizing them, but I’m curious if anyone here can change my mind.

Otherwise I’ve gotta assemble one myself and I’m just not set up to be making uppers, especially pinning and welding a FH and attaching a FSB.

I just ordered a barrel with a fsb attached from Andro. I had been waiting on the equivalent 11.5" to come back in stock at a few places for over a month. Patience ran out so I went with a 10.3". There were a couple of places that had the 11.5" but either were to expensive or, required you to remove the friggin pinned fsb in order to install the barrel nut. Anyhow, TNTE had what I wanted at the high end of an acceptable price. Researched them ad nauseum and decided I had viewed enough negative opinions to stay away. I was really close to pulling the trigger with them. Most of the time I take a few gripes here and there with a grain of salt however in this case I heeded the opinions. In fairness, I also found a few positive experiences.

I spent some time this morning looking over reviews elsewhere. I’m going to pass on TNTE.

What’s worse than the reviews I’ve found are TNTE’s responses in some cases.

I was just curious if anyone here could vouch for them - it’s a little more credible here than some places.

That's what did it for me. I was wanting the barrel pretty badly and they had it. Even the "slow shipping" remarks weren't gonna stop me. But I ultimately accepted as being true the bad attitude which finally did it for me. Too bad. I just now voted in the negative based on searches against the company, not my own personal experience.

An option (costly ?) is to perhaps purchase the parts and have someone like ADCO or others do the labor. If so, I'd checkto see if you could have the parts drop-shipped to them so you could save a bit of cash from additional shipping costs.

I had ADCO do some work previously and was very dissappointed. Substandard work and one of the worst attitudes I’ve ever encountered.

I’ll need to find someone else to assemble it...

Goodness. That's good to know. I recall recently someone else came highly recommend for stuff like this. Let me see if I can find that again.

I have purchased a couple of small items from them (A1 rear sight assembly and a reproduction XM177 stock). The quality was ok, but their customer service is horrible. Despite their “long ship time” disclaimer, they take WAY longer to ship. Emails are rarely answered and when they are, Patrick the “sales manager” seems annoyed at the questions and request for order status. Almost like they’re doing ME a favor by selling me thngs. Customer service is a 0- as far as I’m concerned, and main concern would be if there was a problem I don’t feel confident that they will stand by their product. The seem to want to try to get business from their “fire fighter owned small business” but my guess is that when a transaction fire breaks out, they will not be there to put it out!

Yeah, I got I touch with someone there and he was a clown. Got the impression he thought I existed to serve his business interest, not that he himself was providing a service to me. And they’re absurdly high priced for “no name” parts.

My A1 project is on hold, but when it happens it won’t be with TNTE Sales.

I am going on 3 weeks since I placed my order, I made sure I placed my order after they supposedly came back from SHOT and it's still way past their advertised ship time. I got the SHOT show and bad weather excuse, so I emailed to get an approximate ship date, received no response so I emailed again. This is what Patrick responded with "We are focusing on getting product out the door. Requests for updates tend to slow that effort".

***??? And then I was finally fed up and saw this in their "terms and conditions" (caps for emphasis) "ONCE ORDERS ARE PLACED WE CANNOT AMEND OR CANCEL THEM" So I guess I am screwed and hope my $309 eventually results in a satisfactory product, because I don't have much faith in their 30-day warranty.

It's too late for me, but I would HIGHLY recommend staying the hell away from these amateurs!

Their gunbroker feedback isn’t stellar either.
