Today at the gun shop i ordered a Rock Island 1911 45 GI model and it was 450 dollars before taxes. Is that to much for that pistol. I am on a tight budget and just wondered you know i could spend the extra money on ammo.

There is a Rock Island GI style 1911 down at my local gun shop. They want $700 for it NIB. In comparison, you got a good price. This local shop is well known for inflated prices though.

I usually surf Gunbroker and Guns America when I need a price comparison.

The prices on the RIA 1911s have gone up over the last couple of years. Increased demand has driven up price.
But, it's still the best made 1911 for the price.
Still stand by the RIA 1911 Tactical as being the best 1911 on the market for less than $800.

450 for RIA GI model isnt too bad, but a little more than I would have expected. My local shop had the two-tone tactical model for 450ish, but that sold quick, and the pawn shop down the street has the GI model for 400. If you go to centerfiresystems, they have some in stock for 380 - http://www.centerfiresystems.com/AC-RI1911.aspx. Just a little something to consider, but I'm one that likes to have the gun in hand to see fit, finish, etc. and wont mind paying the extra $

I bought a Rock Island GI .45 for $359 + tax ect. at a local shop - - - brand new. Around $400 is about normal. Anybody who charges 6 or 7 bills for one is sticking it to you. The target/tactical models are more: $550 or so. They're reliable, durable and accurate - - - I like mine.

I think i agree with trio 6 i dont mind paying a little extra to see the handuns fit and finish. Thanks for the help

Id rather pay a little more for an in person buy where you can inspect the gun and see if it feels good and is as tight as you want it to be... Also you can see the finish condition right there.

My local shop has the basic RIA for $425. Another shop sells it for $375 but are always sold out. The local gun show ranges from $350-600 new....

:what:

That's insane. I got a brand new GI RIA online for $380

i got the Tactical model at a show here in texas for $440

dont know about other places but in texas the GI can be found at the shows for about $400 or even less.

Really? Rock island's have better reputation than Springfield GI 1911's. I did some prying on this subject a while ago before I got my Springfield GI and the general census said I'd be better off with the SA GI, as far as 1911's under $800 go. I paid $640 for mine and if I knew RIA had a better reputation I would have saved myself a few bucks.
