To progressive, or not to progressive

I've reloaded for 30 years on a single stage. About 15 years ago I got a 3 hole turret and appreciated the improvement. They I got the newer LCT 4 hole and was again enjoying the progress it enable for the following five years. Last year I got the RL 550B and realized this press is a single stage, a turret and flat out awesome in full tilt progressive at my speed and expectation for quality learned by experience.

Post #26 above states "I don't think there's a better press on the market for pistol and 5.56 than the Lee Classic Turret."

The Lee turret press costs $115.00 and a Dillon RL550 about 5 times that amount. So I would like to know why anyone would spend 5 times the cost of the LCT to buy a Dillon progressive or any other progressive for that matter.

This is not my logic I'm just asking.

I understand now. You used someone else's statement of opinion to challenge my statement of opinion. Or vice-versa. :scrutiny:

But the kids grew up and Mrs Thomas15 started to bring home a paycheck and I myself have had several promotions so these days I can better afford to purchase hobby stuff. Still when I started really considering a progressive the thought of spending all that money kind of gave me pause. But now that I have it I really appreciate what it can do. In truth the actual press is in some respects the least expensive part when all things are considered. I have more money in ultramounts, LED lights, Bin brackets and ergo levers than what my first press cost.

And that is the whole gist of the conversation, right there. Buy the best you can afford, that does the job for YOU! And, more often than not, that means more than one type of press for a lot of people.

BTW, I also agree that 250/hr on the LCT is a bit optimistic. But I also believe that 550/hr on the RL550 is also optimistic. I stated what my actual throughputs were on each. Can someone actually do 250/hr? Maybe. I will just be happy to work at a pace that is comfortable to me.
