This reminds me of a thread from 1999 or 2000 on Yahoo's Gun Control Debate board. They were pushing trigger lock legislation and this woman comes on the board to say she doesn't want to take our guns away she just wants this mandatory trigger lock legislation that could have saved her poor dead son... well she was using her real name so it was easy enough to find with a search.

Her son died when he opened a shoebox on a coffee table and found a loaded, chambered, not on safe 9mm and shot himself with it. Her esteemed husband had the gun there and in that condition because he was dealing methamphetamine out of the house and was concerned that he might get robbed.

Being a convicted felon, the husband wasn't even entitled to own a gun; but the gun had been bought in her name. If I remember correctly she was stumping for the MMM.

Detroit -- Cops' investigation of baby's death continues

Wayne County prosecutors have not decided whether they will charge anyone in the case of a toddler who died from a gunshot wound over the weekend.

Damon Quarker Jr., 1 1/2, died Saturday after being accidentally shot in the chest with a .32-caliber handgun. He found the gun inside a storage box that also contained clothing, police said. When Damon tipped the box, the loaded gun fell out, fired and struck him in the chest, police said. He was pronounced dead an hour later at St. John Hospital in Detroit.

Damon lived in an east-side home in the 10600 block of Lakepointe with his mother and grandparents. Homicide Inspector Craig Schwartz said the gun belonged to one of Damon's grandparents. Police have interviewed and released Damon's mother and grandparents, but a decision on whether to file charges has not been made, Wayne County Prosecutor Michael Duggan and Detroit Police Chief Jerry Oliver said Monday.

In the past, prosecutors have charged adults with second-degree child abuse when a child has gained access to a gun and the weapon discharged. Second-degree child abuse carries a maximum 4-year prison sentence upon conviction. By Suzette Hackney

Nice follow up Bartholomew Roberts...

Isn't it amazing how so many of the people stumping for MMM, VPC, HCI, etc... have a "history"...
