This reminds me of a thread from 1999 or 2000 on Yahoo's Gun Control Debate board. They were pushing trigger lock legislation and this woman comes on the board to say she doesn't want to take our guns away she just wants this mandatory trigger lock legislation that could have saved her poor dead son... well she was using her real name so it was easy enough to find with a search.
Her son died when he opened a shoebox on a coffee table and found a loaded, chambered, not on safe 9mm and shot himself with it. Her esteemed husband had the gun there and in that condition because he was dealing methamphetamine out of the house and was concerned that he might get robbed.
Being a convicted felon, the husband wasn't even entitled to own a gun; but the gun had been bought in her name. If I remember correctly she was stumping for the MMM.
