Can somebody tell me why my broomhandle Stovepipes and short strokes when I pull the bullets on Tokarev ammo, cut the charge by 15% and reassemble. It only functions with full power Tok ammo. Huuuummmmm?

The round was designed in Germany and impressed the Russians so much they used it for the PPSH machine gun. Very high velocity and able to penatrate.
Toks really blast a fireball and I love them.
I would say your broom handle just needs the full power that it was designed for, it's just not kicking the bolt back far enough.

Almost forgot. you can reform .223 cases to fit both Tok and Broom handle. You really need a small lathe or another way to cut them short. I've done this to hundreds and no problem, use a .32 call mold but cast with linotype or they will keyhole with soft lead.

15% may be too much, or it could be damaged.
.30 Mauser or Luger are not .30 Tokarev. It could be that the powder charge isn't right for it, it could be that the cases are out of spec.
If it were me, I'd dump the powder completely and start with a known charge of a known powder.

Do not use full-power Tok rounds. They're already overpressure for what the broomhandle is designed for, and that's not even taking into account the even higher-pressure SMG-designed ammunition that I keep hearing about being the more common stuff now.

Tokarev ammo in a broomhandle

OK guys. My broomhandle won't function with anything but full powered Tokarev ammo because it has a new recoil spring in it from Wolff, and despite the untruths out there, Tokarev ammo is loaded to the same pressures as Mauser ammo, which is to say red hot, around 40,000 psi.
Lets start a real fight, right now. The Mauser is a stronger pistol than A Tokarev. Not so, you say? Lets try chambering A Tokarev for 38 Super. The round would fit. How long do you think it would last?
Have you all forgotten the 9x25 Export Mauser, which broomhandles digested with no trouble? A 128 gr bullet @ 1360? It made the 38 super look puny!
Broomhandles break usion Tokarev ammo because people shoot them with worn out springs. Wolff Gunsprings can supply springs for just about anything that shoots. Their Mauser spring set only costs about twenty bucks plus shipping. Put new springs in any old gun before you shoot it!!

Almost forgot

P>S> Almost forgot to mention that my shooter broomhandle has eaten over two thousand rounds of various Tokarev rounds without a hitch. It really likes the new Winchester White box ammo.

"They're already overpressure for what the broomhandle is designed for, and that's not even taking into account the even higher-pressure SMG-designed ammunition"

As stated just before this, the above is not necessarily true as to original design, and there is no such thing as Tokarev "SMG-only" ammo. If you know of some, please post it, as it will be the first ever documented........not just rumored on the internet.

Broomhandles break using Tokarev ammo because the hot ammo shears 80 year old bolt stops, sending the bolt flying back at the shooter. Ask me how I know. That happened with brand new Wolff springs in a mechanically solid Bolo.

Tok ammo in a Mauser

If you sheared a bolt stop on a broomhandle shooting Tokarev ammo in it you must be the only person in history to do so. If this really happened, and please forgive my for saying I am extremely skeptical, You had the misfortune of possessing A Bolo with a defective bolt stop. Perhaps too brittle.
Read my previous post and let it sink in. The broomhandle was chambered for a round that exceeded 38 Super numbers, the 9x25. It handled that round with ease. I have over two thousand rounds of commie ammo and counting, ran through my Broomhandle. I have examined the bolt stop and the slide (if you can call it that) on my gun. There is absolutely no sign that anything is beating anything else to death. When the Russians copied the 7.63 Mauser round they did not increase the loading. You can't always believe what you read and hear, and I'm guessing that is how you know tOk ammo is too hot. You've always read that and you've always heard it so it must be true, right? Hell you probably read it in a gun magazine, so it REALLY must be true, right? Why, those guys are experts, they know what there talking about...right?
Those same experts will tell you that the 250-3000 (aka 250 Savage) was the first commercially loaded cartridge to exceed 3000fps. In 1910. Some say 1915. You've always read that right.
Those experts are wrong. It was the 280 Ross in 1907. (!45 gr @ 3145fps) Don't always believe something simply because you've always heard it and always read it......

By the way, the bolt stop on my Broomhandle is a hundred years old, as well as can be determined....Damned Frenchmen.....You Broomhandle collectors will get that one...

I would have thought commygun's bolt stop would have sheared during proof testing. That load was WAY stronger than any Tok load...
