Alright gents, looking to get a Tokerav. Should I go with the Romanian TTC or Yugoslavian M57. As far as I can tell, the Yugo seems to be the front runner, with a factory safety, integral recoil spring assembly, and a swing link. Then again, I've heard that the Romanians have fewer problems in the long run. Opinions? (And don't just suggest I get a CZ this or that)

Can't comment on the yugo. I have a Romanian with about 500 rounds through it. I had all kinds of problems because the magazine that it came with was junk. I bought two aftermarket mags online and haven't had a single problem since. Just remember, you get what you pay for.

Tokarevs with external safeties either haven't been fixed yet or are for chumps. 8)

Other than that I'd say either one will serve you fine. My determination would come down to which one has the smaller details like the shape of the hammer and the like that appeals to me more. Mine is a Norinco 213, so it's not even a real Tokarev, but it is such a hoot and so reliable I almost took it to my self defense class and made it my main carry.

I went for the TTC for the magazine availability. I bought oodles of mags for $12 each vs. $30+ for the M57's. BTW the safety on the TTC does suck, just pull it out and plug the hole. Use the half cock like it was designed to do.

I prefer the polish over the romy and yugo. I had some problems getting the hammer assembly out of the yugo at first but after i polished it up, it is a solid shooter. The larger mags are nice.

Yugo's have higher cap mags (+1) and slightly longer grips than the Polish or TTC models. Any problems with the trigger can often be attributed to the magazine safety which is easy to shave or remove. Magazines made strictly for the M57 can be on the low end of $30, but you can use CZ 52 mags and Dremel your own mag catch hole for around half the price.

My Yugo has functioned perfectly and is accurate and has a longer grip holding one more round than the Romanian

The CZ 52 is a sweet shooter too.

I handled the ttc and yugo 57, Go with a cz52. Put a xtra power recoil in it. You can find them for around 150 or soo. I cant upload the pics of my gold cz's, but you can pm me.

I bought a couple TTC's and have performed great. Decided against the 52 because finding mags when I bought mine was expensive if you could find them.

I have two Yugo M57 and had a Cz52. The CZ52 didn't fit me whereas the M57s did. Accuracy was the same between them (as was reliability). I love the Tok and really appreciate the extra handle length due to the 9 round mag. The manual safety on both of mine were wonderfully... as if they function as they were intended to.

I've been keeping my eyes open for a Polish Tok, but I must admit that the M57s have really impressed me.

I prefer the 1911 style aftermarket safety found on the M57 vs the wierd one on the Romanian one. And I prefer the larger capacity mag, but for a range gun it's mostly moot.

I like the idea of a bigger mag and integral recoil spring in the Yugo. I only need 3 or 4 mags, so the mag cost isn't that big a deal. But since they seem to be few and far between, I'm thinking about going with the Polish model. I'm only seeing the Yugos at Wideners, and though the price is right, I'm not sold on the "good" condition.

I have Polish, Romanian, and Yugo Tokarevs...plus a CZ52...... you really can't go wrong with any of them...... but I do prefer the Yugo Tok because of the 9 rounds mags...... SOG and Midway are selling Yugo mags for $28.....

Should I go with the Romanian TTC or Yugoslavian M57.

I have multiple Russians, Poles, Yugos and 1 Romy.

All of them shoot well and are reliable. They are flat, light and concealable.

The Yugos fit my (glove size Large) hand better when I wear warmth-gloves but I like the positioning of the Romy add-on safety a little better since I can more easily & quickly manipulate it just prior to pressing the trigger.

If you like to have a lot of magazines for your pistols, that should be a consideration in your decision since standard mags are relatively inexpensive while M57 mags are pricey.

Whichever you purchase, I would suggest taking the time to COMPLETELY disassemble (yes, including the "trigger pack") it so that you can thoroughly clean it, inspect it and stone/polish the "trigger" surfaces as required.

On one of my M57s with a horrible trigger pull, I found that half of the problem was the result of someone having reversed an old, worn-out sear leaf spring rather than replacing it. Once I replaced the spring and polished the bearing surfaces, the trigger became pleasantly crisp and relatively light.
