tokarev, makarov, or luger for new range gun?

I have Chinese, Russian, Polish, and Romanian Tokarevs.
Between 1995 and 1997 I was buying surplus Tokarev ammo [Mostly Polish] from Century for 7 cents a shot delivered.
The ammo stayed at that price for many years, but now the price has gone up.
I have shot a Makarov a couple times.

I don't think you can go wrong with any of those guns to collect and shoot at the range.
But for carry, get a Kel-Tec P3AT 380 loaded with 90 gr Gold Dot 1100 fps ammo [10 ounces loaded], put the pocket clip on it, and clip it into the shirt pocket [looks like a pen] or front pants pocket [looks like a pocket knife].

I would go with the 9x19 option because of the greater power and the availability of ammo. For pure "fun to shoot" guns the power is unimportant I know since all of them will punch a hole in a piece of paper.
I have a 9x18 CZ and it is great to shoot but I can't walk into Walmart and buy a box of ammo(let's assume the insanity comes to an end) like I can for the 9x19. If money is tight then buying 500 rounds online like I do is not as attractive as walking into Walmart or Academy and buying 100 rounds for $25.

I cannot believe their aren't more people on here telling you to get the Mak (A real one). The only thing that makes the CZ82 any better than the Mak is the white dot sights, other than that the Maks are hands down the best guns I have ever owned/shot! These things are crazy accurate, easily taken down to the 27 parts that make it up, and I am still getting 9x18 ammo for under $15 for a box of 50 (was paying $9.99 til Sandy Hook). I have my Russian Mak w/ adjustable sights that I carry, and I have put about 10,000 rounds thru in the last 2 years (I still wouldn't trade this for a new unfired anything), my Bulgarian fixed site Mak that has only had 16 rounds put thru it for testing, and I am in the market for one of the hard to find Stainless Steel 9x18 Maks. You can usually find these guns mildly used or NIB old stock at any gun show or on gunbroker.com for around $300
I fully agree. I have two Bulgarian PMs, a CZ vz.82, a Radom P-64, and a Zastava M57 Tokarev. The P-64 is strictly for pocket-carry and I bought the M57 more as a novelty than anything else. The vz.82 is certainly a nice gun, but the two Makarovs will have a home as long as I do!

I can tell you the Glock is head & shoulders above PM in every department.
In your opinion, Pablo. In your opinion. (Which, hard as it might be to believe, does not necessarily equate to fact.) There are a lot of us who wouldn't have a Glock off a Christmas tree.

I have a CZ82. Best $200 I ever spent on a pistol. The pistol is extremely reliable. It 's a little on the heavy side, but it's spent some time on my hip as a CC SD pistol. Hornady makes some good SD HP's in 9x18

Yep. That's what my P-64 will be loaded with.

My vote is for the CZ82 hands down the best pistol available in 9x18 IMHO.... YMMV

Since we are talking range guns here, get the Tokarev. I picked up a Chinese 54-1 recently along with 250 rounds of ammo. Just make sure to collect your brass. If you reload or know someone that does, your ammo costs can be kept in line.

I have owned and shot two Russian Makarov pistols and three Glocks. I can tell you the Glock is head & shoulders above PM in every department. Ok the G29 is fatter and harder to hide but slug fired from it has more energy at 200 yards then 9x18 at the muzzle. Hope that helps.
This thread isn't about Glocks. I would put any of my Makarov pistols up against any Glock in the reliability department. Yes, the 9x18 cartridge is not as powerful as 9x19 or .40, it can still get the job done, and I feel well armed with a Pistolet Makarov.

One does not need a Glock. Did you see the new Bersa 9x19 ccw pistol with seven shot magazine? It is thin light handgun with very good ergonomics can can be bought for under $400. Unlike some out there there is actually enough grip to hold on to.

Oh come on, Pablo. First you're touting Glocks. Now you're the apostle of Berettas. Make up your mind.

Hear, hear! :)

It does not have to be Glock or Beretta. SIG, S&W, Springfield, Bersa, Ruger, Kahr,.....also make fine compact/subcompact pistols.
