What the lastest from S.D. in the Tom Daschle / Thume ( i think) senate race?

Last I saw Thune had a slight lead over Daschle. Daschle has outspent Thune by a large margin. Heard Thune was saving money until closer to the election. It will take a big lead to overcome the dead indians voting for Daschle (note that they don't show up in polls). I am not rich, but sent Thune $50. I figure I will save more money than that on carpet cleaner from my reaction every time I see that Daschle critter on my TV!

Latest poll I saw (on CNN) showed Daschle with a four to five-point lead. Given the source, and that Daschle has more name recognition, I would think that Thune has a chance of catching up.
I love the Daschle ads, by the way. They're showing footage of him shaking hands with Bush, talking about how he worked with Bush on the WOT, etc.
Gee, how come he isn't showing footage of him with Kerry?

thune and daschle are very tight. it is looking like daschle has a small lead right now.
thune hasn't been running as many ads as daschle - i see about 2 daschle ads on tv for every one of thune's. on the radio it is about even.
the wall street journal had an editorial a couple days ago that just ripped daschle from one to the other. unfortunately, i doubt the paper reaches many around here.
thune's ads seem to be fairly effective, but i don't think they are really hitting the mark like they could. daschle's ads are pretty standard fare. a couple days ago there was an ad on that ripped daschle on his gun control views... we'll see how that one goes over (sd is an extremely pro-gun state). unfortunately many folks don't believe that guns will ever be banned, that they couldn't be banned...
if the election were held today, i fear daschle would have it.

They are tracking all Senate polls in competitive states. From a statistical standpoint, the race is a tie and has been for months.
Daschle is outspending Thune by huge margins. Daschle not only set a new record for per-capita spending in a Senate campaign, he also spent $8 million by June of this year and has spent even more since then. Despite that Thune has been hanging in there and has even edged slightly ahead of Daschle in some polls.
I donated to Thune even though I'm in Texas. Thune would be a great win for gun owners.

Last poll I saw had them pretty much neck and neck, taking into account the margin of error and undecided voters.
