Tony Martin security sign scares off would-be thieves
A man who was plagued by break-ins at his Cambridgeshire home has put off would-be thieves with a sign showing two crossed guns and the slogan: "This property is protected by Tony Martin Security Services."
John O'Neill, who lives 14 miles from where jailed farmer Tony Martin shot dead an intruder, nailed the tongue-in-cheek warning to his gate after a string of break-ins.
John, who designs music equipment and has worked with Elton John and Robbie Williams, said: "This has done the trick. It has certainly proved more effective than signs saying 'beware of the dog' or 'keep out'."
A friend of Mr O'Neill's came up with the idea after Mr O'Neill, from Thorney, lost £4,000 of property to raiders, says The Sun.
Mr O'Neill said: "We haven't asked Tony Martin's permission. There is no Tony Martin Security Services."
Mr Martin shot dead burglar Fred Barras, 16, at his remote farm in Emneth Hungate, Norfolk, in 1999.Accomplice Brendon Fearon, 33, was wounded.
