My shooting buddies and I took our non-shooting friend out for a little plinking yesterday. All the shooting was at about 7-10 yards. I have never seen him smile so much!

We started the newb off with a Ruger Mark II. Moved him up to a SRH with .45 Colt (cowboy) loads, had him shoot my Blackhawk with some .45 ACP loads and finally he tried out the SRH .454 (Wincheter 260 gr.)

He is absolutely hooked. He didn't want to shoot the .454 at first, but then my other buddy shot a water jug with the .454...as the gallon jug tore itself apart and the water pretty much disapeared the newb had changed his mind. Overall he liked shooting the .22 the most (it was also the gun that he shot the most with the better part of a brick through it), with the SRH running a close second.

He didn't like my Blackhawk very much; liked the SRH grip much better.

He handled the .454 fine. After his first shot he was grinning ear to ear. And yes, he hit his target too...

As soon as he moves out to MN he is buying a .22LR and a big bore.

Bravo, Wedge!
Civil rights issues are well and good when discussing firearms with a non-shooter, but letting them experience the FUN of shooting is the best way that I know to make converts.

The few (always too few) times I achieve this it is most satisfying ... and hearing about it from others, nearly as much so.

Keep up the good work ... it is essential as well as pleasurable. Good result! :)

Psst! Hey buddy! The first one's free!

Yeah...we didn't tell him how much the .454 rounds cost until after he shot them. By then it was too late and now he doesn't care :D
