So my old friend from college called me today. She is a little tiny fiesty Italian liberal. I mean, you take all the liberal/left wing sources on the news and multiply it by 10, you have my friend Marie. However, she has always been torn on guns. She fails to see why I "need" an AR-15, but she likes the idea that I have a weapon for self defense. Kinda weird IMO.

I think the reason we got along so well is because we didnt share any of the same opinions. Haha.

So anyway. I take my S&W model 10, Mossberg 12 gauge and SKS to the range. I seemed to have an over-abundance of ammuntion for these particular guns. Now these arent exactly starter guns, but this girl is very "womens rights" and I knew she could handle it. If not, we could always rent a .22 or 9mm.

So I go over the 4 rules, proper weapons handling and operation etc etc. And I start he with the model 10. At 7 yards, she was decent. Showed anticipation of the shot, but had a nice group. The shotgun intimdated her and she only let off about 4 rounds. Which is understandable for a beginner.

But the reason Im posting this long story. If not to pat myself on the back  ....is simply because of her performance with the SKS.

It was an indoor range and I started her at 25 yards (the max). She put a tight group in the chest of Q target with a heavy com-bloc POS that isnt even zeroed to her. It was amazing. Shot after shot. Stone cold killer. haha.

So in conclusion. She is all for CCW, but isnt entirely comfortable shooting yet. And she is mature and responsible enough to hold off on carrying before learning. Shes going to buy some OC spray, and maybe take a course in shooting. Who knows. But...I think I did alright for today.

Good job. I took some family and a friend shooting over Christmas. None of them were antis but none of them were enthusiasts, either. Anyway, they enjoyed it. We went over the rules, sight picture, etc., etc. They all did pretty well. But all of them shoot sure put a hurtin' on my ammo:eek: (and my wallet when I go to replace it).

yea, she did try the mossberg. Just a few rounds though. Understandable for a beginner. But it was just birdshot :D

Many anti-gunners have never fired a shot, and for this reason I believe that many of them can be made to see the light. Let us go and spread the Good Word!

At the range today...

The guy next to me is practically forcing his woman to shoot a .45. She's obviously never shot and keeps babbling about how afraid she is 'cuz she's scared everytime he fires it.

Finally I walk over and hand her my extra gun. A .22 revolver with 1" barrel. She smiles, and asks if it kicks. Him and I say no. She takes the gun. I hand her a box of 500 rds. and go back to shooting with my gun. She shoots about 10 shots with it, then moves up to the bigger guns they rented.

B/f hands it back to me and thanks me. I remind him that if she has fun, she's more likely to go shootin' again. I think he got the idea.

By the end of the day, she had more patience and better groups than him.:neener:

Since women tend to analyze things more than men I don't find that surprising. Women also have better concentration than men.

****NEWS BREAK****

I've had guns in the house for only a year. My wife isn't anti but doesn't like guns. I have been working on her VERY slowly, you know, handing her an empty revolver to "feel the weight" and then showing her how to make sure it's empty. Or, having her sight the revolver because I just painted the front sight with orange and ask her, "can you see it faster?" An then showing her how to obtain a sight picture, of course only to see if the paint is effective.... Well, you get the idea, I'm teaching her without telling her I'm teaching her... Today she said she "might" go to the range with me when the weather turns warm in the Spring!!! I'm very happy because I want to share my new passion with her, after all, we have been married for 29 years and I like her company. :neener:

Thanks for taking her. Taking a new shooter to the range does more than sending a lifetime of donations to the NRA I think. I have yet to take someone that didn't have fun and realize that their views on guns were not realistic or rational. When all you see of guns is people shooting each other in movies and brady bunch quotes in the newspaper I can understand why.

I worked with this guy from England, and he wanted to go camping with me and my hunting buddy. Naturally we took some guns around and did some plinking. He was horrified that you could actually walk into a gunstore in AZ and walk out with a handgun the same day, and assault weapons should be illegal. Anyway, we got him to shoot a few rounds through a 10/22 and a 22 pistol, and then a 9mm, Mini 14, etc. Couple of weeks later he came over to me and told me he bought a 10/22. Followed by a Glock 19, followed by an SKS, etc etc. Then he gets offered a contracting job in New York City for big bucks, and I don't see him for 18 months. He calls me up when he gets back, and I go out to dinner with him. What did you do with the Glock when you went to NY, I ask him? Oh, I took it along. Carried it in my briefcase all the time. NYC is a dangerous place! When I told him they would have hauled his backside off to jail for 2 years minimum if he got caught, he got all indignant. "America is a free country, how can they tell me what I can do with my private property!"

I created a monster..

well last week i took a few guys from my unit out shooting.

Well the guys all loved the Rom AK :neener:

One guy wants to buying AK at next weekend at the gun show.:D

Being a liberal doesn't mean you are antigun. Many are progunners just like being a conservative doesn't mean you are progun. Its something really bothers me that they throw things in such narrow minded groupings. Its no different from saying all christians are raving crusader fanatics and all muslims are beheading terrorists. Such claims just don't work.

Good job taking your friend to the range.

I agree with the others, though, who pointed out that "liberal" doesn't necessarily mean "anti-gun."

In fact, without wanting to get on too much of a political tangent, the words "liberal" and "conservative" have largely lost their meanings in modern American politics. The Republican party is certainly not "conservative" by any stretch of the imagination. (The Libertarian party IS, although I don't agree with them 100% on everything.)

That's funny...

...*everytime* I go to the range, I "take a liberal with me."

But good on you for showing someone who isn't a shooter what guns are really like, whatever her political beliefs.
