Like the title says, I took my girlfriend out to the range for the first time. This was last weekend. It was fun, had her shoot my .22WMR and my Dad's .223

I have a few pictures here of her shooting her first group:

I didn't think it was too bad, especially for someone with no prior experience. She's a quick learner, she's soaking this stuff up like a sponge. I just have to show off, she's beautiful, and she can shoot. I'm one lucky guy...

I'm thinking of introducing her to shotgunning next, but I fear my 12ga may be a bit to0 big for her. I'm thinking about buying an NEF in .410 for this purpose...

One more shooter. Always a good thing :)

Looks like she's having a good time... that's what counts. I never worry much about accuracy for the first few trips to the range. Use a nice big target at short range, so that a new shooter can keep most shots on target. Accuracy comes later.

Awesome! Congrats...looks like a "keeper" relationship.

Does she have a sister? :D

Seriously, though, it sounds like a really fun time. You'd better watch out. She may be out shooting you before long. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Awesome! It is so much better to have a hobby that the wife/gf enjoys too!

When you can get your girl to shoot with you it makes it a lot more enjoyable. Also don't worry about the 12 gauge, When i took up trap shooting, my wife wanted to try it also, at the time i had a Browning Citori trap gun in 12Ga. She did ok but the gun was not fitted to her. We went out and purchased a Beretta 303 auto, she did better with this and the reduced recoil helped. After awhile she wanted a break-open, so we ended up with a Browning BT99 special. At the grand american one year had it ported, by proport. She went on to win several shoots and won a few state shoots as well. She is more consistent with her scores than i am. Just goes to show you a little encouragement goes a long way.
She is getting into pistol bullseye at this time after taking an NRA pistol course, and plans to get her concealed carry in Ohio where we live.

My wife is one of those "girly girls" who has always rather disliked guns. Since we enjoy doing so many things together I jokingly suggested maybe she would like to start going to the range with me. She responded with "What the hell, I'll give it a try." Could have knocked me over with a feather! I suggested maybe we should buy her a pistol but she thinks using one of mine is ok for now. (Actually I was thinking how much fun it would be to go shopping together. This kind of shopping I could dig!) As soon as the weather gets better, we'll see what happens. If she does this, I hope it doesn't mean she will bring up ballroom dancing lessons again................:D . Hmmmmm, maybe I should rethink this one!:uhoh:

You got a good one.

Its great taking a girl to the range, especially when its her first time ever with a firearm. Some actually once they get over the ential fear they pick it up pretty quick. Its good to find one with some common interest or least open enough to try new things. Though, my last few girlfriends have not been very open to the idea and one was down right hostile about owning firearms. It just seems, at least in this part of the country(Mass), many women actually have a fear of guns, and of people who own them. Its part of the media playing up the domestic violence aspect against women, and how guns in the home lead to murder. When in fact more women are probably saved by using a firearm against a abusive spouse/lover. Anyway yours seems to be a keeper or at least open minded.

We had another little adventure yesterday, we went to the gunsmith. Her Dad has an old Marlin rifle that we wanted to have worked on for his up-coming birthday.

While we were there, I brought 2 of my own rifles. One of them is an old Spanish Mauser (95 action I believe) that I want to have a new barrel installed on. The one that's on it now is a .308 barrel, and that seems like an awfully high pressure round for an old 95 action. So I decided to have a .257 Roberts barrel put on there, I think this will be perfect for a number of reasons. First off, the smallest center-fire rifle I've got is a .30-30, and I was thinking that something like .257 would be a little better for a new shooter (I plan on sharing with my girl LOL). Secondly, the .257 is based on the 7X57 case, and since the rifle was designed for the 7X57 I thought it was a fitting choice. And finally, I think .257 would be a perfect round for deer hunting...

I'm also having the whole thing re-blued. This is going to be one sharp looking rifle when it's all done. I'm thinking about getting a Leupold VX-I for it as well... the scope thats on there now isn't the best.

Wow didn't mean to write so much about the gun. I just meant to say that this hobby is much more fun/interesting when you've got somebody to share it with.
