My cousin was visiting from Gremany. I met him at the interstate so he could follow me back to the house and my bumper stickers clearly indicate my hobby of choice. Anyways once we got out of the car my cousin (Simon aged 13) asked what the minimum age for shooting was in America. I told him that it varied by state but in this state it was 24.........pause, clears throat... months. His facial expression went from profound dissapointment to sheer awe.

He asked his father (also my cousin Bernd) if we could go. It was alright with dad (who is a shooter in Germany) but because the shooting age in Germany is 16 Simon had never been shooting but had watched his father shoot and had been able to clean the guns.

Well we went to the National Mall then to the Air and Space Musuem, and went back to my house and ate. After dinner I mentioned that we could go shooting, that the range was open until 10. We packed up and went. Simon took the range briefing test and passed. We went out to the range and shot 5 different guns grinning the whole time. After about an hour Simon was having a little difficulty holding up the gun so I suggested we hang it up for the night. He kept all the targets and a bunch of spent brass for souveniers.

We went back to my place Simon was still grinning all the way home and said that he will NEVER forget his trip to America. Later in the week the went to my parents house near Rochester NY and my fater took them trap shooting, and had another great time.
