Hi all I wanted to share my experience:

Saturday morning I loaded up my gear to go over to DELCO field and stream for a little time on the .22 rimfire range, and the Pellet gun range.
I wanted to do a little silhouette shooting at 50 yards on the .22 range.

So as I was getting ready to leave, my daughter said she wanted to go also. Now my wife daughter and son (age 5 today) have gone to the pellet gun range with me before, but neither my son or daughter has fired a .22lr yet. So I told daughter we would be shooting a .22lr., but could later stop at the pellet gun range. She wanted to shoot a real gun with daddy!!! Before we left she wanted to change her shoes, she came back downstairs wearing her favorite pair of white patent leather shoes. Now I know better than to argue with a woman about her choice of shoes:rolleyes: So off we went.

I brought my thompson center contender in .22lr. I chose it because of the fantastic trigger pull and short reach to the trigger Also for safety because I have to cock it after each shot . Now she already knows the 4 rules of gun safety but we went over them again on the way.

We set up at the tin can position, which is 2 rows of five tincan sized steel plate silhouettes at 50 yards. They are resetable by means of a cable from the shooter's position. The shooting positions have a roof over them and so do the target positions, the middle has a lath-house style roof. It was so hot and hgumid that the barrel of the contender, and the outside of the scope fogged with heavy condensation. After we wiped them dry we commenced shooting. She hit about 40 out of 100 shots with some strings where she hit five or six targets in a row!!!.

We went to the pellet range after a break, but only stayed 10 minutes, because the contender was much more fun to shoot, as she said, and she was getting tired anyway (2 hours of shooting the contender).

She was very proud when we got home and told my wife and son all about it. A great morning, we then ate lunch and all went swimming.
Later in the day at the pool she was telling
everyone about the great time she had. Her best friend from a non firearm owning family asked her parents if she could go also. They said we'll see,
HMM I will have to work on them a bit.
She was really excited and had a great time.

:D

That's what it's all about, Master Blaster.

Good for you! Great way to build a bond with some shared skills. Shooting, IMHO, should be as natural as learning how to drive a stick shift.
I was about the same age as your daughter when I got trained on my Winchester model 60. I'll never forget that and neither will your daughter her first real shooting session!

Good job. We need to get as many young people involved in shooting sports as possible. Remember, young people grow up to be adults who VOTE.

Teach 'em young. My dad took me to the range for the first time when i was 7.

You also seem to be right next door to me. I was thinking of joining delco field an stream untill I got a look at their range rules. I think these rules were written by hunters who go to the range to sight in a couple times a year and don't care much for the other shooting crowds. I'm not gonna go out and buy myself a new AR-15 or AK-47 to load 1 shot into my 30 round magazines at a time. Same goes for the 5 round slow fire rule on their pistol range. Need to find a good outdoor range in my area where i can rip off 30 rounds as fast as i want (safely of course, nothing stupid like hip shooting).

Its very difficult to find a good range in this area that allows you to shoot rifle rounds at all.

When I go to delco, with an AR or an AK, I usually get away with loading a few rounds in the magazine, function test you know. The key is to not pelt the guy shooting the 45/70 falling block in the head with your hot brass, I have a metal screen with a wood frame I clamp to my shooting position when shooting a semi auto.

When there is no one there I do as I please, But ripping off thirty rounds as fast as you can? I know of NO RANGE with in 100 miles of here that allows you to do that. Now If you have 100 or so acres of your own......

All of the commercial and state run ranges with steel backstops, that allow rifle (ommelanden) forbid that steel jacketed 7.62X39 ammo.

Atglen is the least restrictive, and their membership is full now. but even they frown on rapid fire, and probably restrict to 10 rounds.

Water and Wings in east greenville pa, where SODAPOP holds his THR get togethers may allow rapid fire, I'm not sure on that.

Good luck finding that club, I have lived in this area for 40 years, shooting for 30 of them , and I know of no range around here where you can do what you want more than one time.
