I took my 14 yr old brother to the range for the first time. I was worried he was going to be nervous, but he had a blast! I went over basic gun safety with him before leaving home and monitored him very closely at the range. He loved it and was a pretty good shot. I didn't think he would want to shoot my shotgun, but boy was I wrong. He shot my Ruger 10/22 for a while and then asked to shoot my Benelli Nova. I opened up a can of worms. He didn't want to go back to the Ruger!
I also had purchased some slugs to throw down range. To my suprise, he wanted to shoot one of them after seeing me. The look he gave me before he shot it, and his reaction afterwards were priceless! Needless to say, he only ended up wanting to shoot more.
He wants to come with me more often now, and I'm glad I could "convert" him.
Here are a few pictures of his targets.
This is at about 15 yards both times
The slug. Smack dab in the middle. Not bad for his first time!
