Very recently, I picked up a Springfield Armory XD-9 service model.
Had a chance to take it out to the range, and I am one happy camper!
It was an indoor type range and there I was able to put 240 rounds through it.
I had a mix of WWB FMJ's, Remington JHP's(both 115 gr.), Cor-Bon 125 gr. +p JHP's, and Speer gold dot 124 gr. +p JHP's.
I was shooting at distances that ranged from 10 feet to 50 feet.
Shot it two-handed and one-handed. My groups ranged anywhere from just under two inches to about four and a half inches. The best groupings were attained with the Remington JHP's at all distances. My worst were with the Cor-Bon's. It seems that the pistol's POI is just a tad high from POA. Then again, SA states that they sight the pistol in at six o' clock.
There was one malfunction, that I believe was ammo related. It was with the Cor-Bon's. I noticed that the Cor-Bon's had the shortest OAL of all of the cartridges on hand. I think it also might have had something to do with the bullet's "different" ogive. When I loaded up the first magazine of said ammo, the first cartridge got "stuck" between the mag lips and feed ramp. With a little fiddling around, the problem round was cleared easily. There was no apparent external flaws with the cartridge. Reloaded the magazine, racked the slide, went bang. Hmmm... I'm not worried, but I have to do more testing with the Cor-Bons before I trust them in this pistol.
I feel the XD and I did well with both slow and rapid fire. The pistol is capable of better accuracy than that of the shooter. Tried to limp wrist it and had no problems. As for the trigger, it was just right. For Me, It feels great in the hand and is very controllable when firing. I like it much more than the Glock I rented a couple of months ago. Nothing against Glocks, the XD has a better fit and feel for Me in this case. I'm taking it out this weekend and can't wait to see what happens.
That's all I can think of right now, if I remember anything else I'll add it here.

By the way...I do believe a Sub-compact model is in My future for CCW. :D

Same here. Discarded my G34 in favor of the XD9Tactical. The guy I sold the G34 to loves it and I"m happier with my XD. The Glock made me adjust to shoot it while the XD shot naturally.

Does the XD have the same kind of trigger/little trigger setup as the Glock?

JimJD, good for you and thanks for the report. I also felt the same difference in the XD and the Glock. Don't know why that pisses some people off?

RileyMc, yes it does. The grip safety is what's best. Maybe you can see them both here..........

Or Better here..........

Yep, nice pistol. Got one in two-tone for my mom for when she gets her CHL.

I wish they would ditch the trigger "safety," though. I just don't see the purpose. Even if it did offer some kind of safety (which I fail see how), the grip safety trumps it and makes it useless.

The same here; I was going to get a Glock but after handling a XD I went for the XD 4" Service Model since it better feels & better points than a Glock.

I'm going to buy a 5" .40 shortly. I think I'm going with the green frame for something a little different.

I own an XD40T and an XD40SC, and I've shot the comparable Glocks. The one thing I really like about the Glocks is that their trigger safety is a lot more comfortable. The Glock trigger is kind of scooped out, while the XD is pretty straight-cut - which makes it harder on the trigger finger when firing. After a hundred rds or so, I have to take a break cuz my index finger gets a bit raw.

Dunno I prefer the XD to the glock by a lot. The trigger safety on the glock bothers my finger and gets in my way, the XD's safety doesn't. Plus all the XDs I have shot have better triggers. Its no target trigger and is still a little creepy but way ahead of the glock. Glocks have a better finish though.

Put another 200 rounds through the XD yesterday. No problems.
Used 100 rds. of Remington 115gr. JHP's and 100 rds. of WWB 115 gr. JHP's.
That brings Me up to 440.
My shooting was another thing altogether. I was keeping almost everything in the black at 25 and 50 ft., but I had a problem keeping My groups tight. At one point I was all over the place.
Blah. Bad day. :(

I just got back from the range with my friend and I let him squeeze off some rounds with the Sub-Compact 9mm. His words after he was done, "Not bad at all......let me try it again." :D

Correia, where are you a CC instructor in Utah? I live in Provo and I'm looking for a class. I know of one at Rangemasters in Springville, that's probably where I'll end up doing it. Thanks for any info.

Would one of you post a pic of your XD sub-compact? This is next on my list for a CCW. Thanks.

I was at Barnes & Noble over the weekend and noticed a gun rag with an XD-45 on the cover. I breifly fanned the pages and didn't see any write-up. I guess it was just an appetite wetter?

I know I want one when they hit the shelves.
