I went to the gun store today, usually not a good idea for my wallet. But I've been thinking lately (my first mistake), as I have recently picked up the Bersa .380, of how much I really do like having a small DA/SA pistol with a decocking manual safety. I just really feel more "ready" having a chambered round and being able to keep the safety on, it's just the extra added mental comfort I guess.

I have always been a Glock person, but I just don't like keeping a round chambered while carrying. I've also owned Kahrs and obviously had the same feeling about carrying a live round chambered in them. I've even gone to the Ol' 1911 and even then never felt totally good about carrying it cocked & locked, always checking the thumb-safety to make sure it didn't mysteriously go to the fire position.

I've never been fond of the .380 caliber, but the options in 9mm just don't seem to be there in similar sized guns. I started searching the net and realized that you really cannot grasp their physical size based on pictures and dimensions, you just have to go down there and pick them up, heck mostly just looking at them through the glass display case is enough for you to realize their girth.

They were slow so one of the clerks asked me if I needed help and I said that I was looking for an alloy framed, manual safety, 9mm caliber pistol in a PPK sized frame. He thinks for a minute then pulls out a S&W 908 and hands it to me. Now for those of you that think Glocks are bricks, this thing felt like an unbalanced brick, very top heavy and with no personality.

Then I ask to see the CZ RAMI everyone raves about, it's a reshaped Sub-Compact Glock made of metal. The other CZ pistols were even larger and didn't meet my size "qualifications".

Next was a large frame Kimber 1911 in 9mm, then I thought of the Para LDA's and asked to see it. I do admit, that is one good trigger pull, but it felt like a chopped down .45acp 1911A1 with the same width grip and slide, heck, I'd just as soon get it in .45acp if I were to go with that.

So I wandered back and forth in front of the display cases trying to let "it" catch my eye, but to no avail. Then in the el-cheapo section I saw the Bersa Thunder UC in 9mm. It was pretty close to what I was looking for, but still slightly on the large side.

Then there are the Kahrs, ahhhh the Kahr pistols, perfect, almost perfect. If they would just add a DA/SA model with an alloy frame and a slide mounted decocking safety on the same K9 slide/frame I'd be sold on it, why won't they make that?

Why won't anyone make that?
