whats your opinion? doesnt matter who carries them (ie, police or civilian)

my guess:

Glock 19
Glock 26
S&W J-frame
1911 commander sized
1911 full sized
HK USP Compact
Makarov
Ruger SP101
Kel Tec P32
SIG 229

anyone else?

Government 1911
Officers 1911
Commanders 1911
Glock 17
Glock 19
Glock 23
Glock 26
Glock 27
Glock 36
S&W J-Frame

Just my guesses

If I were to guess I would bet that J frame sized revolvers and mouse guns of some make or another are probably more common then anything else.

Realistically most people don't want the hassal of holstering up, loading up and taking the time out to properally carry a largeish handgun.

Even us gun nuts tend to admit to carrying a small revo or other pocket gun quite a bit.

Heck I will admit it...my most carried handgun is a Smith Model 60 with 5 rounds of 125grain .357 with an extra speedloader full. No muss, no fuss just toss it in the pocket.

Beretta950 ( Jetfire )is a single action .25ACP semi auto pistol.

Beretta 21 ( Bobcat) is a DA /SA semi auto available in 22lr and .25ACP. A tad bigger than the Jetfire.

Many a person ( civilian and LEO) have used the Jetfire for w-a-y too many years as an "always" gun. Thin , flat, great triggers, accurate as hell, reliable as all get out. Heck some folks prefer these to the Keltec P32...;)

Legally...or NOT?

Lorcin, Jenning, Davis, Raven, Hi Point, well used S&W, well used Charter Arms, FIE...

I think the most popular carry gun would be either a Glock 19 or 23. If talking LE, then almost definatly a G23 or 22. Civilian? I'd say it would be a fair toss between Glocks/SIGS/HK/SW/1911s...

Well, if you include Law Enforcement you'd mainly see a bunch of Glocks.

I'd speculate that there are AlOT of j-frame Smiths and Beretta pocket pistols being carried in civilian pockets out there.

My opinion, looks like this:

First, any Smith & Wesson J-frame class firearm

Second, any Saturday Night Special (insert any
cheaply made, "junk type" firearm)

Third, any make and model 1911 .45 ACP

Fourth, Glock 17 or 19

Fifth, any Smith & Wesson K-frame class firearm

Sixth, .45 caliber SIG-SAUER P220A

Seventh, Browning Hi-Power

Eight, Walther PPK or PPK/S

Ninth, Taurus 85

Tenth, NAA .22LR or .22 mag "Mini-revolver"

Are you just talking for Concealed carry? If not, why hasn't anyone mentioned the Beretta 92, or whatever variation that many LEO agencies use? Are they really that rarely used?

Here in "The Deep South" we are seeing less and less
of the Beretta 92's and/or 96's on patrol with the PD.
I'm not really sure of the reason; cuz in the early days
of the "Wonder Nine's" Birmingham rookies were told
their only choice was the Beretta 92? Only veteran
officers with more than 10 years experience were
allowed to carry other 9m/m's. Now days, I think one
would find a variety of weaponary within that same
department.

I worked for another department for many years, and
I can only recall two or three individaul officer's carrying
a Beretta; in a department where personal choice was
allowed.

My guesses:

S&W J-frame
Raven, Lorcin, etc.. cheaper pocket pistols
Glock twentysomething
Berreta, Walther, Seecamp.. more expensive pocket pistols
Beretta 92 series (don't forget the military!)
S&W K-frame
Other, non-S&W revolvers
1911-styles (do that many people carry them?)
Sig
S&W autoloader

1911 of some type
Glock 9mm
Browning Hi-Power
S&W J frame snubbie
Walther PPK/S
4" S&W M19
Ruger SP101
4" Colt revolver .38/.357
Other 38/357 (Taurus, Rossi, etc.)
HK USP in 40

I keep seeing the Glock 9mm mentioned. I know these are popular with CHLs but I know of very few LEOs and departments that carry the 9. from my personal research (fairly limited, but still), .40 seems to be by far the most common round.

My guesses
J frame size revolvers
Glock .40s
Glock 9mm
1911 and clones
S & W 500 mags (just kidding).

(I am only putting 4 as several cover more then one gun).

Eagle

Hmmm. In NJ it's next to impossible to legally carry, but I was kind of surprised nobody mentioned the Sig 239. I always see this being mentioned as a popular carry gun.

If discounting LEOs and illegal carry, I'd probably guess something like:

J Frames
Colt Equilavents
Taurus Equilavents
Glock 19, 23, 26, 27
Sig 229

I think I've read pretty consistantly that more people are shot in actual 'intended one civilian shooting another person' are shot with .25 ACPs each year... so it would stand to reason that even among legal carriers that many are carrying some sort of .25s and I'd imagine Berettas are at the top of that list when you figure how long they've been produced.

That leaves one more choice... and since I'm a 1911 guy... :p

Unwashed masses---Raven---Jennings---Hipoint---maybe a Ruger P-series--------something cheap.

THR's---1911----J frame---Glock(insert number)

Police/Military---Glock--Beretta 92---S&W 3rd Gen auto.

According to industry sales figures, the various pocket .25 ACp outsell all others.

discounting these, I would say
Glock 22
Glock 17
Glock 23
Glock 19
S&W .40 autos
Beretta 92/96 series
S&W J frame
S&W K frame
1911 series
"Pocket 380" autos
"Pocket 9MM" autos

I'm not sure - there are a few very large departments that still issue 9mm
Glocks: NYPD, Washington DC Metropolitan Police, etc...
