Oh no!

I bid $345K on several of those, barely lost the bid!

Just think...only a few $K more...I cudda had it...

The guilt! The shame!

Fascinating stuff and very enjoyable to view & read about. Though way, way beyond my budget it still amazes me as to how much firearms of that age, that are in such pristine shape, have appreciated in value far beyond what I would have guessed. But then; what do I know about guns nice enough to make it to the Rock Island auction? Thanks for posting.

In the writeup on the Winchester 1 of 1000 rifle, the person who commissioned it laments that he had to send two examples back because Winchester did not make the rifles as he had ordered, and offered no explanation as to why.

Seems poor customer service is nothing new.

Old furniture, coins and guns sure get crazy expensive. But nothing is crazier that art.
I like looking at and reading about those old items but I don't have any urge to own them.

In the world of the ultra rich, it seems items like art and other pricy collectibles, aside from their aesthetics, are also there to say “I have one and you don’t”,
