Here’s my favorite 3:
Les Baer Concept V, for IDPA and range.
Les Baer Stinger for CCW.
Colt Python in Ultimate Stainless, just because.

For me it mostly had to do with how it felt in my hand. For that the Sig 220 won hands down. It even feels better than a 1911. The other one I like a like is the Ruger mark series 22 LR.

Walther P99
Colt 1911
Makarov

Yet, the Makarov is the one I carry everyday. Size, comfort and reliability trumps everything else. That being said the P99 has been absolutely realiable as well but it's just too big for me to comfortably carry all the time.

A good, rough and tumble 1911. Nothin' fancy for me, thanks. This is a working gun. As long as it runs and is accurate enough for what the pistol was intended to do, it's all good.

A Model 10 Smith & Wesson...thin barrel please. Here is Smith's finest and most prolific effort. There are some very good reasons that so many Model 10s have been sold.

A Ruger Blackhawk with a 4.625-inch barrel. I prefer .41 Magnum, but .357 and .45 Colt will do nicely. Tough, rugged, and reliable, the Blackhawk is there for the long ride and hard duty.

I'll rank in terms of how I perceive their importance to gun history:

1: M1911 (Originally Colt, of course, but if I had to choose just one to one it would probably be an Ed Brown).
2: Glocks (in general massively important as they kickstarted the polymer era, if I had to choose one model of Glock for myself it would be the Glock 34 target model).
3: Browning Hi Power (It is "the world's 1911". The 1911 really caught on over here, but the Browning design that saw and still sees a great deal of action worldwide is definitely the BHP).

I'm new here but these are my choices from what has worked best for me
1. Glock 21
2. Kimber 1911
3. Springfield armory xdm45
If that's all I was limited to, I prefer the .45 caliber, I like large bore cals best.

1. Ruger Bisley Vaquero 44 magnum 4 5/8 barrel
2. S&W 629 Trail Boss 3" 44 magnum
3. Glock 30 sf 45 ACP

Because guns are tools for me and first they have to be easily carried when i'm involved with any and all other outdoor pursuits (as opposed to "being out shooting") and secondly because I believe revolvers are far more utilitarian than any semi-auto IMO.

YMMV and probably does, but that's just how one old man sees it.

1. Colt Government Model Series 70- Classic, beautiful design, rich in history, high quality, .45 ACP. What's not to like?

2. Glock G26. Concealed carry guns are always a compromise, and this is the best balance of features for me. Relatively small size, but decent capacity, adequate round (Gold Dot +P), light weight, durable finish, trigger not great but acceptable. Very easy to take down with the ability to drop in any needed replacement parts. Have a Trijicon RMR installed (with back up irons), great for my aging eyes. Added a AA .22 conversion kit so it also makes a great sub-caliber trainer/plinking gun.

3. Ruger Mk II. Have countless rounds through this one. Hard to beat for the fun factor.

Honorable mention: S&W Combat Masterpiece. Mine are older models with glass smooth triggers. Most perfectly balanced K frame. Great shooters even though they are "only" .38 Specials.

I'm left-handed so I don't spend time shooting a lot of pistols whose designs ignore lefties. But when left-handers take over the planet, I'm shuttin' down the Sig factory. Just sayin'.

Anyway:
H&K P7 (M8 or M13 depending on hand size or carrying style) in 9mm. Possibly the best and most innovative handgun design of our time;
H&K USP Full Size 9mm V2 LEO. If Darth Vader carried, this would be it (you didn't think that old Darth would carry a Glock, wouldja?);
Benelli M95E Atlanta 22LR. It makes me feel like a secret agent on an assassination mission posing as an Olympic pistol marksman. Oh, and it shoots unbelievably well.
All left handed or ambi, very reliable, very accurate and since I live in CA, they needn't be optimized for CCR (although the M7M8 probably qualifies).

1. Walther PPQ
2. CZ 75B

Everything else that I have fired has just been, "everything else". These two pistols have been remarkably easy for me to be accurate with, and fit my hands like they were built specifically for me.

Ruger SR1911 (because I just got it and it's everything I hoped it would be. It fits my hand like a glove besides being incredibly easy to shoot)
S&W 645: it was good enough for Sonny Crockett, and it's heavy enough to beat the BG to death if you run out of ammo.
Ruger P95: never EVER failed to go bang when it was supposed to.

Guns should work first, then be fancy if you're so inclined.

Great stuff!! I may have to check out that CZ before ponyin' up for the HP. Looks like a favorite of a lot of people here. I don't have any experience with that one.

you should most definitely check out a CZ 75 variant. It's the best not so kept secret of handguns!

Very accurate and i'd say more reliable than the 1911 platform.

I agree that you should check out the CZ 75B.

It is a beautiful gun to look at, but you can't fully appreciate one, until you have it in your hand. It's a great weapon.

1) Browning Hi-Power
2) CZ 75B (I have the 85B)
3) .357 Mag Revolver (S&W or Ruger)

All of these are subject to change, but I don't think the BHP or the CZ will ever be out of the top five, EVER.

1. A quality 1911. I don't own one YET.

2. Sig Sauer P226 in .40. I own a 2022 because I don't have the budget at the moment for a P226.

3. Ruger Blackhawk. I actually own this one in .45 Colt. Love it!
