Top 3 handguns and why?

1) High Standard 22 Trophy. Always loved the way they looked, and was one of the first pistols I started using so there's sentimental value.
2) Kahr K40 Elite 98. Biggest gun related regret was selling this to a relative. All steel, sexy, fit my hand perfect, uber reliable, shot like a dream.
3) Sig P220 Compact SAS. Want one. One of the reason I got rid of the Kahr was I was a bit tired with smaller caliber pistols and knew it wouldn't be long and I'd probably buy a 45.

Ruger MkII, 1911, and for third, a many tiered tie.

Other than the MkII being my favorite handgun to shoot, and outside of the fact that while I don't worship at the alter of the 1911, it's awful hard not to like them once you shoot them, I just don't really have a firm third favorite. I could go with about 15 other different guns that I have had experience with and have enjoyed. I will say that I think I have found the perfect 9mm "combat" pistol for me, and it is the XD9, but until I have really ran it through the wringer, I will hesitate to add it as a favorite. I could also say my P90, which was a totally reliable workhorse of a gun that served me well for many, many years, but since I sold it last year and have no plans to replace it, I don't know that it belongs as my firm third.

So, the first two represent guns I enjoy and would definitely replace. The third is just sort of an open option...

FNH Five-seveN - A funner range gun there never was (great for stepping newbs up from22LR, too)
S&W TRR8 - My backpacking arsenal (com' on grizzlies, I can take you all on:mad:)
CZ-52 - Great project gun for me (I will make it beautiful:banghead:)

and because they're the only 3 I own

TCB

FOR ME, I like the S&W snub model 66, XDM SC in .40 S&W, and PT111 9mm. All 3 are loaded with my own reloads and fit my needs, not your's, just fine.
GS

in reality: 1. ruger sr22. the most fun firearm i have ever owned. 2. nighthawk 22 conversion. stunning accuracy, great way to turn one gun into two. 3. ruger sr1911. so reliable, such high quality in trigger/function factors, at such a reasonable price.

in my dreams: 1. any nighthawk. 2. colt python, any available caliber. 3. smith and wesson model 17, 4" barrel, cal 22.

No doubt my "dream guns" are a litlle different than my actual guns. If money were no object my list would be something like this:

#1: Wilson Combat 1911. For home defense.

#2: Sig P210. For the range.

#3: Springfield EMP .40 for concealed carry.

If Texas were an open carry state, I'd be all over any S&W .44 cal mag revolver. I did sign the petition, btw. :)

Well, I'll use two categories. Fun, and innovative.

First are the fun ones, and they are only guns that I've fired:
1. Kel Tec PMR 30. God this thing is fun to shoot, and so light. I love it.
2. TT33. I can't explain it, but either this or a 1908 hammerless is the pistol an angel/divinity would carry, or at least that's how I feel when I shoot it.
3. RIA 1911. Bare bones, entry level 1911. But it's so accurate, it's almost boring to shoot (ALMOST).

Now for the innovative. I'm certainly not an expert (at least among the minds here), but in my mind....

Colt 1911
Glock 17
SW model 10.

Snag... No offense intended ok?...Really?? a High Standard and a Kahr??

Don't get me wrong, this is coming from a guy who owns and likes off-beat firearms. Well anyway, to each his own.

Having said that I like the off-beat sort of firearms, I will give you my three:

CZ-999 (Zastava made 9mm, Serbian Arms)

MKEK Girsan Yavuz 16 (Turk made exact copy of Beretta 92f, but with all steel guide rod)

Sig Sauer 2340, 2009, 2022: Known as the Sig Pro Series. Say what you may, but unless you have pulled the trigger on one of these pistols, save your polymer judgements, until you have. Feeds and shoots every type of ammo. Largest single pistol contract (2022) ever awarded (French government)

Anyhow Snag...See I am not passing judgement. I like and appreciate some firearms that most likely alot of folks on here have never heard of.

Gunner

Pre War Reg Mag
Pre War Kit Gun
Comercial 1917

Why? all well made investment grade classics that have already lasted one lifetime and will easily last a second.

Number one.....Thompson/Center Encore/G2/Contender....Best hunting handgun system extant. Any number of chamberings from .22LR to 600 Nitro Express.

Number 2.....Freedom Arms single actions, line bored, supreme quality, supreme accuracy in good hunting calibers

Number 3....Ruger Mk series/Browning buckmark...tie...Super accurate squirrel guns

Okay, you didn't specify USE and I'm a handgun hunter. You didn't specify pistol or auto pistol, said "handgun". There are other handguns than auto pistols, ya know.

1) a .22LR of your choice - great training, cheap fun and will put a rabbit in the pot. My first was a Ruger RST, but my wife's gradfather's K-22 is sweet, along with half a dozen others.
2) a .357 revolver of your choice - I'm fond of the 686 series, sure miss my Model 28. I love the feel of a revolver, and respect the history.
3) a .45acp of your choice - I love 1911s, but the G30 is growing on me enough to buy a G21 as well.

I own multiple examples of each of these three categories, some 9mms, and very little else in handguns.

1. Colt 1911 Government Model (Pre series 70, Pre-A1)
2. Browning Hi-Power (I admit, mine is a clone by FEG)
3. Ruger Mark 1/2 target

If this was 'general' handguns there would be a 4 inch 357 on the list, and probably my Vaquero.

hmm, top 3 you say?

1. 1911
2. Ruger 22/45
3. Glock 19

Pretty basic list, but I think they're fairly essential in everyone's collection.

Yup. But I was curious to what other's like. My old man is definitely a revolver guy. He likes the reliability and power of the magnums. The first handgun I ever shot was his .44 magnum when I was 12 years old. Damn near knocked me down, but I hit the center of the knot in the pine wood I was aiming at.

But I don't hunt with handguns. My top three choices reflect my top 3 reasons for owning a gun, just like yours do. I just asked the question, and used "handgun" for a reason. Never said anything about not including revolver's, if that's your preference.

I loved the S&W .44 I grew up shooting, but value higher capacity now days. I also loved the GP100 a buddy of mine let me shoot. Felt great in the hand, highly accurate, and almost zero recoil with the 38 specials I ran through it.

I think if I picked up a revolver today, it would be a cowboy action .357, just because they look pretty damn cool. :D

In the even of a zombie apocalypse, I'd change the 1911 choice to a Glock 17/19 with a 30 round mag, suppressor and laser guide rod. But I'm not one of the believers in a SHTF zombie apocalypse. :) If anything, it will be an infracture failure with no water/electricity available to the masses and a 12 guage will still reign supreme. But dang it, I like pistols!!

Well, see, the post being in the auto pistol forum instead of the general handguns forum is a little confusing.

Glock 18c. Takes care of all sd needs.
Colt Anaconda. Handgun wild boar hunting.
CZ Czechmste. Takes care of competitions.

I have 2 of above. Will be completing all three soon.

1. 1911. The original. Without it, we wouldn't have the pattern for so many of today's pistols. How many ideas of the original 1911 live on in some form or fashion? (rhetorical..)

2. Glock (specifically 17/19). Without it, we wouldn't have the modern 'wundernine' and the concept of striker-fired, trigger-is-the-saftey, and acceptance of polymers.

3. Pardini SP. Why? Because its the perfection of shooting an incredible discipline; ISSF rapid fire (check it out on youtube if you don't know what its about). It incorporates all of the ideas that modern target shooting are about, including a forward weight bias, raked anatomical grip, and sliding weight system to reduce felt recoil.

Three pistols i have and wouldn't get rid of unless I got a new version of the same gun:

1)Kimber Custom Crimson Carry II
2)FN Five-seveN
3)S&W m&p360

Top three pistol's if i were to buy them today:

1) FN FNP-45 TACTICAL
2) S&W 627pc
3) Colt Special Combat Government 01970cm

Just for fun ill add in #4 and #5...

4) Glock Gen4 G29 (when it finally comes out)
5) Glock G18 (just to say i have one!)
