Top Shot - Season 3

One word: Seinfeld. Massively popular show with probably the ugliest cast in the history of TV.

The guys on the cast, yes, but they still cast a pretty attractive female for the part of Elaine. While neither is immune, male viewers just tend to be a bit less forgiving on the wanting to see some eye candy on screen.

Back to Top Shot though: I do have to say that the throwing weapons thing when they do it bores me to tears. Not only that, but from a game perspective, the teams who go on performance for that challenge when it comes to elimination are potentially nixing their best players because they didn't perform well at a very obscure challenge that doesn't really relate to modern weapons.

I don't really have any issue with the archery episodes, but the "throwing stuff" episodes need to go.

To each their own. Somepeople think the chick on Sons of Guns is hot, too. Dif'rent strokes.

I toss around my tomahawk on occasion, so the throwing episodes, while not the greatest entertainment, are horribly bad to watch. I was surprised they didn't count the point where the one dude's hawk hit the edge, not the face of the target. Sometimes I think they are making up the rules as they go.

The mountain gun was pretty sweet, I didn't expect it to turn out the way it did based on the practice session. I'd love to fire one just once. They've really stepped it up a notch with some of the guns this year, a bulldog gatling in one episode, a Hotchkiss mountain gun in the next. Makes me wonder if the RPG they show in the opening credits will actually make an appearance.

I feel like their weapons budget has gone up astronomically since the first season.

In the first season they had a ton of cheapo guns. TZ99? A Sig 226 clone? You couldn't even get the original? Mosin Nagants?

Now you've got the Bulldog Gatling gun, the Hotchkiss, that spendy M4gery...

You're right, they seemed to have more milsurp in the first season.

I'm pulling for Dustin. People like him are the best chance I have of getting my wife to think guns are not just for crazy criminals.

Mike and Jake = Terrell Owens cancers to their teams, although I still think the team competition is useless. I think I misjudged Dustin.

Sounds like he also confirmed what the radio show said about throwing all the matches and trying to eliminate them all

That, and the quality+quality of their producers/consultants has probably improved from Season 1. A lot of organizations like the NRA/USPSA/NSSF benefit from how Top Shot shows off the shooting sports in a good light to a big audience. If I worked for a firearms advocacy group, I'd send over the best experts I know of on my dime to help Top Shot succeed.

Did anyone catch Jake saying he wasn't a "gun guy" and wasn't "into guns" at the end of the show? I never expected a contestant on Top Shot to not be a genuine firearms enthusiast. Then again, a lot of the on-camera commentary might just be to enhance the show's drama.

I wonder if the contestants consciously or subconsciously think about being recruited into the firearms industry or at least signing endorsement contracts.

IIRC they didnt offer giftcards/money to the winners of elimination either.

so far season 1 was actually my favorite season.

What was the point of using a Glock 18 in the corner shot if they were only going to fire it in semi-auto? I almost wonder if they just took a Glock 17, stuck a 33 round magazine in it and called it an 18 Did anyone see a selector switch or port on the slide?

I still like the first season the best. They kept it simple, had a number of at least rather unheard of firearms, and they had people from outside the U.S.

I started doubting the idea of it being an 18 when it was obviously pointless to use a full auto pistol for semi auto shooting, so I intently watched for a selector switch and sadly, never saw one. It was just a Glock 17.

^ Also, a civilian cannot get a real Glock 18 legally. Glocks came out in the 1980's and the GCA 68 stops foreign MG's from entering the civilian markets. Then in 86, they stopped domestic MG's from entering the civilian markets. Any Glock 18's you see on civilians are probably just dolled up G17's.

What was up with the preview saying someone was quitting the show? And if true, I wonder if it has to do with Jake....

Jake is listed as a football coach. With his first setback in the game, he has decided to quit his team and sabotage his former team for the rest of the game.

I wonder how his players, and his athletic department, feel about this exhibition of poor sportsmanship. I am certainly glad he doesn't coach my kids.

What a jerk!
