I'm not saying to shoot a running scumbag, by any law that'd make you the bad guy.
Like I said above, "Baby, don't stop shooting till the bad guy stops being a threat, either drops or runs like hell."
But, in order for that weapon to leave the holster, you better be in reasonable and articulable fear of death and/or serious bodily harm.
That scenario demands pull, point and shoot, if you and the perp are lucky, you may be able to include a "STOP!" command.

Getting off topic... Sorry to the OP.

Picking a weapon is like picking a spouse it's best not to let someone else do it for you. If your wife likes the .380 be glad she has found something she will carry and practice with.
right on bigbear...( if momma ain't happy )......she will use what she likes anyway..
brought my wife a Jenny J22 many years as a purse gun while i worked security
as a second job. since then i have purchased her a 38 ultra-lite, 380 PPK, 9mm
HP and a Ruger Mk III.....To this day she still prefers the J22 loaded with
Stingers for home defense and purse carry.I was told by her that she has
confindence in using the little J22...although a little heavy it has never failed to fire.

I had been carrying my Taurus p738 for a while before having an accident that rendered my trigger finger useless. I have not been carrying lately - can't figure out a way to use another finger without the bad finger getting blown off - it's not looking good that it's coming back so i may have to start training left handed. Point being: I felt much better with the .380 than i do without it. I'm really small framed and have to be tucked for work most of the time so the .380 is about the only thing I can conceal reliably. Not sure a firefight would be the same, but i can put a full mag in a 3-4" circle at 10 yds with it. If i can manage 1 or 2 solid hits out of 6 shots when the heat is on - I think that will get the job done. Point being: - the gun is not the weak link. Most importantly - she seems comfortable with it.
