Hi all,

So I just picked up a Springfield Range Officer in 9mm last night, and part of the reason that Springer can offer the high quality fit and materials is because they skimp a bit on the finishing touches, thus there are plenty of sharp edges. I was thinking about going and deburring the outside of the frame on the sharp edges (thumb safety and bottom of slide, mostly) but I know that this would take the finish away. For the sake of cost, is there anything that I could do short of a full strip-recoat that would still offer good protection and match the parkerizing well?

No.

A touch-up cold blue pen will cover the bare shiny metal for a while.

But it will not match Parkerizing in any way, shape, or form.

Are there no solutions besides a standard cold blue? It seems as if there has to be some chemical out there that would react correctly. Besides, from what I hear, cold blue pens are absolute trash.

Yeah,

You can buy a home parkerizing kit from brownels and do it yourself but you'll need a pretty big tank to dip the stuff in. You could just get some if the brownels alumahyde bake on paint and do it that way also.

Alright, thanks for the tips. I'll probably (if I can ever work up the guts) blend the safety, because it is ridiculously chunky and sticks into my strong hand thumb at the first joint. That being said, it appears to be blued, so a standard gel or liquid cold blue should be acceptable.
