Was just out looking at model 70's. They had a featherweight in .257 Roberts, an ultimate shadow in .243 and a featherweight stainless in .243. The stainless is $990 , the Roberts is $757 and the shadow is $659.

I can't make up my mind. I'd prefer a featherweight in .243 rather than the Roberts. Not sure which to buy, I think the price of the stainless is a bit steep.

Of the 3 choices which would you get?

Without knowing what you're going to do with the rifle, it's impossible to say.

OK, the rifle will be used for groundhog and coyote hunting on farms in the area. I have several heavy barreled rifles but want something light because of back problems. No deer hunting in OH with rifle so that's why I'm leaning towards the .243.

I don't dislike the Roberts but already have a .25-06, which is why I prefer the .243.

I also have heavy barreled guns in .25-06, .22-250 and .308 with a Remington Classic in .300 H&H mag should I ever get the chance to hunt something bigger.

If you have a little $ to spend id jump on the ultimate shadow and get rid of the crappy plastic stock for it and order a McMillan EDGE graphite stock. They're extremely nice and it'd knock quite a bit of weight off the original rifle. Otherwise I'd go with the stainless featherweight, i have one in 30-06 and its very nice. I actually wish mine was 243 as the'06 just doesn't get used.

Forgot to mention the stainless FW seems to be at the going price I've seen. Picked mine up for $999. Might not be a bad one to hold on to anyway as there wasn't gobs of them made in stainless, it was a SHOT show special.

Thanks all, went back today and grabbed the Stainless Featherweight in .243 Win. It was my first choice but I don't like the price.

Started thinking of picking up the Shadow and changing the stock, but that would have been close in price.

Dubya450 also helped when he mentioned these weren't made in large numbers. I looked today and couldn't find another one.

I kind of figured there are no more of these after looking around today. It's not in the catalog and no one has them. That was what drove my decision after dubya450 brought it up.
