Ive been doing a ton of research on the the Springfield XDM-9 and the Glock 19 (Probably gen 4).

Has anyone shot both?
Which one would you recommend?

i was looking at both guns, and i bought the Glock 19C, it all come down to what feel better in your hand.

if i have to do it all over again, i would go for the G19 again, but for a new Gen 3, i'm not a fan of the gen.4

Gen 4 G19's have had some issues with the new recoil springs. Go with a Gen 3 unless the backstraps on a Gen 4 fit you better. You can always get a replacement spring for the Gen 4 anyway. XdM's are very nice too so hard choice between the two. Get what feels best in your hand and whatever one you shoot best.

The guns you are looking at were on my list but I just ended up going with a S&W M&P 9 Pro Series (4 1/4" barrel "service size") and LOVE IT!

i dont like the grip texture and i can't care less for back straps, like i said, it all come down to what feel best in your hand. i wouls feel as safe with a xdm too.

I have shot both and can honestly say they're both great guns.
the XD fits my hand better, but I like the top slide on the Glock better.

Ideally there would be a Glock with a backstrap safety and an XD grip. 8)

I was looking at some other choices and narrowed it down to these although the S&W did seem like a nice platform

I was at my local gun shop yesterday evening, he's a certified Glock armorer (so he's got a bias), and I asked him about the Gen4's review with customers. His top 2 complaints were:

1. The grip bites if you got softer hands.
2. The double spring makes it hard to rack the slide.

Otherwise, he hasn't had any come back to him and his main personal gripe is the backstrap function. From what I understood, he feels that the difference in price between a Gen4 and Gen3 is not worth the backstraps, especially considering that most people will keep the default one on, as that has been the "size" of the Glock for years now.

$0.02.

First off, there are more Glock fans on this forum than XDm fans so your poll will favor the G19. The XDm uses conventional rifling in the barrel meaning you can shoot cast lead bullets accurately and that barrel is match grade. The interchangeable backstraps that come with the XDm allow you to fit the gun to your hand so if the stock backstrap isn't to your liking there are two more to try. The ejection port on the G19 isn't relieved meaning cartridge brass will strike the ejection port as it ejects whereas the ejection port on the XDm is relieved and you won't get the triangular scarring on the case mouth of your spent shells.

Go with what fits you best. If that's the XDm, don't be put off by poll results.;)

You're splitting hairs here. IMHO they're ridiculously similar with few differences. To pick, I would just handle and shoot both and buy whichever feels best to you.

The glock has been around longer than any xd so it will have more people who have tried it, and essentially more people that like it. Im not a glock basher, they have been around for like 30 years for a reason, however the xd has ambidextrous controls, the slide assembly contains all steel parts, the barrels have traditional rifling, the xdm has adjustable backstraps, and the xd has been through the same torture testing that the glock has (minus throwing it out of an airplane, but come on lets be real here), the xd is comparably priced if not cheaper. Now I know the glock has a bigger aftermarket selection, however IMO when I pay 600 to 1000 dollars for a weapon I want to have change it, thats why we shop around. But thats just my 2 cents

Look at them side by side, one is a 9mm billboard and the other is arguably the best polymer frame pistol ever made. Try them both and maybe a couple of others like M&P, FNP, get the one you like, not what we tell you to buy. I must admit I have only one polymer framed pistol, but have shot several, and recently sold my H&K. Which one did I vote for? It should be obvious...

If it's just for a range/fun gun you can just fondle both (hopefully shoot also) and go with your gut.

If it's for carry or primary firearm for home defense, there is no contest - go with what is proven and recommended by professionals. Stack the odds in your favor as much as possible.

For me, they both feel the same in my hand. The XD has a better trigger but in the end its not that good either.

I would go with the Glock because it has no grip safety.

Springfield or Glock?

I've had both and I can't say anything negative about the Glock except I did have a few feeding issues when I was using up some wadcutters. The Springfield functioned flawlessly with whatever I ran thru it. Just to throw another wrench in the works, Taurus makes an excellent gun. Like most of the other guy's sid, you won't go wrong with either....heck, buy both...Guns are like tools, a guy just can't have enough.

Both are good guns for sure.
But I favor the Glock overall.
It just feels better in my hand and I shoot it more accurately too.
But I recommend the G26 over the G19.

I love my XDM 40. Fantastic gun. Extremely accurate & reliable.

To me it felt much better in my hand than the Glock.
