I voted "other": S&W M&P9c or one of the Kahrs if you have to go single stack. I really like the M&P's thumb safety (optional and can even be removed later if no longer desired), interchangeable backstraps & APEX parts to really improve the trigger.
9mm for greater mag capacity & cheaper practice ammo (more practice = better shot placement) and effective 9mm loads are available (I prefer 147gr in 9mm; more push, less snap).

This question is not uncommon, i.e., "which gun for both CCW and HD?"

It's worth noting, as always, that the question isn't reasonable. Same as asking, "I'd like a pickup truck or minivan that's also good for fast handling on twisting mountain roads."

You're talking about two different kinds of weapons, such that the better one is for one task, the worse it will be for the other. If you want to straddle the difference, you'll wind up with a gun that isn't optimum for either duty.

Depending on your job, the city you live in, your lifestyle, etc., your need for one or the other will be more pressing. For HD, you can shop around and get a decent shotgun for around $200 or so. That's major firepower. Then you can focus on getting a solid carry gun and not compromise on any front.

Later, as finances allow, you can get a big .357 or similar for HD, too.

The Ruger SR9c is a possibility for the application you're looking for here. It conceals well, has a superb trigger, and is extremely accurate and reliable. Load with the 10-rd mag for carry, with the 17-rd mag for HD.

CZ-75D PCR. Small enough to carry concealed, big enough to be a good home defense, and range gun. Accurate, reliable, 15+1 capacity.

The op must really like Glocks, there are a lot of other handguns that will work just as well

I don't really like Glocks per se (but no I don't dislike them), I just have more trigger time with a Glock 19 than any other pistol (followed fairly closely by a Sig P229). I know that they function very reliably and I know that many people carry them, but I was wondering what real-world experience other people have with carrying them vs. other platforms.

Glock 23 would not be difficult to conceal at all, I conceal carry a glock 22 without any issues.
