Hey guys I am looking at purchasing this gun for a camp gun. Its $350 and the MSRP is $684 so I think its a decent deal. Its a little modern looking for me but it should make a good hiking gun. Does anyone have any experience with these revolvers? Are there replacement grips? I'm a wood grip fan. Thanks in advance

If price is a concern and it has you looking at a Taurus, why not look at the 66? I've shot my buddy's and it's a pretty good shooter and generally I've heard nothing but good things about the 66 from owners. Not saying the tracker isn't a good gun, I have no experience with it. Just offering another lower cost route. Before I took the plunge on the S&W 686 I looked at a Taurus 66. I believe it was right around $450 new.

With your caliber choice in mind, I know a lot of people consider the 357 on the smaller end of a woods protection round but outside of grizzly country I think it is a fantastic round with lots of versatility.

I would recommend forking out an extra $100 for a Smith or Ruger.
My experience with Taurus has been less than satisfactory.

I have One and have shot it quit a bit with 125 g. 357 mag ammo. Mine is the 4". This gun has handled everything from hot PMC, Remington Classic and American Eagle to mid range hand loads and everything in the 38 Spl. Category. It has been accurate and is tight as new. I carry it when camping and once in a while for CCW in cold weather. It's a exelant gun to train a new shooter using 38 special ammo. My Wife loved it to learn with. I liked it so much I bought the 617 DAO modle 2" for CCW because its also a 7 shot 357 and the same frame size. At that price you could easily sell it if you don't like it. A new comparable S & W will coast aproxamitly 3 times that and used two times.

I have a 4 inch 627 tracker. Its been a good revolver. I replaced the original grips with some Hogues, which I prefer. The ONLY complaint I have is that STUPID porting in the barrel! It makes the gun way louder than it needs to be!
