Money is tight and I really want a 1911 .45 ACP, so much so that I am considering trading in my P226 .40 S&W SCT with Crimson Trace laser grips for one.

1) Do you guys think I will regret trading this gun in for a 1911

2) If not what do you think a fair price would be for the trade in, I'm looking to get a Springfield Armory Loaded.

I sold a very nice 226 Sport Stock and a 220 Sport Stock to finance a Les Baer 9mm PII. I already owned a few 1911s, including the SA Black Stainless Target loaded, so I knew what i was getting. Go for it!. If you miss the Sig pick up a used one later.

You might get more $ selling it yourself on this forum!

well depends.
are you familar with the 1911 allready?

if you never shot a 1911 before, go use one before you do the trade.
if you used one and it fits you better then the 226, you will not regret the trade.
if you just want the 1911 for the looks and it does simply not work for you.. you will regret the trade.

adding to what folks have already said...if you decide to go this route, you might regret trading it for a "Loaded".

a Dan Wesson 1911 would be closer in quality to that of the 226 while staying in the price range. to stay in the Springfield brand, i'd look at a Professional.

my #1 and #2 .45 shooters are a Sig 220 and a Sig 220ST. but i am having a couple of 1911s built on Colts, think highly of the Dan Wesson and own a S&W 1911Sc

If you want to spend right around 1k the Dan Wessons cant be beat, IMO. Nice tight lock-up and excellent fit and finish all around. Made mostly with Ed Brown parts. Go for it. I sold all of my other guns for the two DW's in my siganture and havent looked back.

Thanks for the advice guys.

To answer a previous poster I have definitely shot a 1911 before. The grip on a 1911 is different from my p226 but it still feels good, and while I like the looks, that's not the reason for a trade.

Yeah I'm definitely looking in the $1250 price range. I can't justify spending more than that. I'll reconsider the Springfield Loaded, is the professional the TRP model or is that a custom gun shop order?

Maybe buy a little less expensive 1911, and keep the 226 and have them both.
You can surely find a very nice 1911 for less money than the 1250 you are thinking about spending.

Just a thought.

The Springfield Professional is a custom shop gun that is what is sold to the FBI. The TRP has the Professional type features, but its more of an upgrade to the Loaded.

for the $1k price range, look at the STI Trojan
