Trade Question AK for AR

ShooterGuy, if he already has an AR that he's getting rid of then he probably already has .223/5.56mm ammunition, so why not get a .223 saiga and convert that to an AK?

That's a good point, unfortunately I have no experience with the platform in that round so I couldn't endorse it as well but it's up to the OP. You can definitely carry more rounds per weight in that ammo though.

Arsenal 106 !! 5.56 AK. I have 3 and love them. Never a problem out of any of them. Get Circle 10 mags and your G2G. They stopped making them so if anyone is interested in the finest 5.56 AK around better pounce now !!

Question: Is the Waffen Works '74 brake removable? I would rather install a flash hider, something like the phantom...

If you really want an AK, I'd say do the saiga conversion like many others have done. That way you know it's not assembled on a surplus receiver from random parts made by who knows what company. Then decide 7.62 or 5.45.

Personally, I chose the AR mostly because of familiarity and it has the largest domestic parts support without any 922r compliance worries.

I have both and if I could only have one I would definitely get a 7.62x39. To be honest if I was only going to have one AK period I'd probably make it a 5.45x39. I'd also buy the 5.45 before a 5.56 unless there was some real good reason not to. Sure if you have several thousand rounds on hand that might be a good reason. There is nothing wrong per se with the 5.56 and I like mine. The 5.56 AKs are not really standardized and take the most knowledge and work to get things working how one likes.

That said if I could only own an AR or an AK it would be an AR. Of course my ARs are higher end guns, and have slowly morphed to meet my needs, preferences, and desires.

I do think the way to go with an AK is to get a saiga or vepr and then configure it to your needs and preferences. For me this ends up being the best value. Although the days of getting $270 saigas seem to be gone so they are not near the value they were.

I will say 922r (and associated regulations) shouldn't dissuade anyone. It is so easy to have a compliant gun and use quality parts it's just not that much of a concern. Know the countable parts and be able to count to ten and you are good to go.

Yes, it is removable. I'm also getting about 2moa from my WW AK-74 with surplus ammo. About 2.5 moa with Golden Tiger. A little less accurate than a decent AR, but 16 cents per round is pretty hard to beat.

A Vector is about as good as it gets other than an Arsenal. I own one, it's nice... I'd love to get another one day.
