..I decided to make an exception. This is a Century Arms built up from a Polish AKMS kit. I have wanted a small carbine with a folder. Unlike my old WASR, (which I hated), I actually like this AK. It is heads and tails above the quality of the WASR, no cant, it has the AK dimples, thick receiver, good price, fit and finish is very good and it is an underfolder. It has ZERO trigger slap.
It does have some things I don't like. On the front trunnion, it appears as if they ground the Polish markings off, or this is a new trunnion. The trigger is a little too light for my liking. It also doesn't have a chrome-lined bore, BUT neither do the Yugoslavians and Yugos are discribed as some of the best.
All in all I am very happy with my purchase. Even though I love my service match AR, this is fun to shoot too. The difference for me is that I keep a note book with me when I shoot the AR and compete against myself. I reload and chase brass for the AR. It is my hot rod. The AK is more relaxed for me. I don't score myself, I don't pick up brass, I just plink. You really can't compare the two rifles. They are really like two sides of a coin, even though they were designed for the same purpose.
This rifle is accurate enough for an AK (I mean seriously, it is sheet metal and plywood). I say enough because it seems to be a relative term. People talk about their accurate AK's, and I laugh because they are accurate enough for some purposes, but don't hold a candle to an AR. They aren't even in the same ball park. I am getting about 4 MOA at 100 yards. Not bad when you consider it is an underfolder. It is comfortable to shoot for me, but some have complained they are tough on them.
Anyway, I enjoy the rifle and would recommend it to anyone looking for a better than cheap AK.
