Ok with the craze going on right now with the "Black Rifles" was wondering if this would be a good time to trade up or if I should even sell my FMP G3? I am a lefty so the rifle is kinda hard to manipulate for me. Been seeing similar FMP's on BG go for $2k+ and a M1A can be had for a little less than that. Just wondering if it would be a good trade up or should I just keep the G3?

Go for it, just line up the new rifle first. Ive been trading up most of my guns.

I had this puppy:

sold it for this bad boy:

made 200 bucks too.

I understand that as a leftie you might have issues with the G3. I like both rifles for different reasons, but I wouldn't consider it a "trade up" based on my experience with both of them. Nonetheless, if that pleases you then that's what you should do.

I definitely prefer the M1A to the G3. If nothing else, for the vastly improved sights and trigger, and lower recoil. That said, I would be looking at something a little nicer than a new Springfield Armory Inc. rifle. Something with a chrome lined barrel, at minimum. I've been seeing a pretty nice one at the last couple OKC gun shows... it is a Norinco, but has had a bunch of the key parts replaced with USGI. I think they were only wanting $1000 or so. It is hard to beat something like that. Old Springfields with GI parts and Federal Ordnance M-14s can likely be found in your price range if you look, as well. Unfortunately, mags are hard to find right now.

Yeah have always wanted one but will be getting that archangel stock. Just have to sell the G3 first

I have been contemplating selling off my AR-15s for a M1A Scout Squad, but I can't find one anywhere. If you come across them in your searches, I'd welcome any hints on where to find one.

In my experience, a good G3 pattern rifle is likely to be more intrinsically accurate than a stock M1a, but in real world position shooting, the sights, ergonomics and FEEL of the M1a will put you way ahead. I traded in my AR-15 for an M1a in 1983 and have never regretted it, which hasn't been the case with most of the trades I've made.

yeah that G3 is my last expendable firearm that I would think of getting rid of to get this M1A

regarding trade

I bought the HK-91 in 1980. HK-91. Great rifle. Shot it quite a bit, reloaded the striated empty cases after picking them up from 33 ft to my rt rear.
Afew years ago I finally bought the M1a. Iron sights, 500 yd targets.
OohAah. HK gathered dust, until I traded it to an old Bro for a pistol I had coveted for 20 yrs.
If you are in Bandera, and not DownTown, I think your needs will be met better with an M1a.
Reloading for it is another story

My prior post neglected the current situation. If you can TRADE RIGHT THERE or have the purchase lined up airtight, don't lose your G3. OK? OK?

11b infantry, again, thank you for your sevice to our country.

I'll agree that the old Springfields are a great choice and I wouldn't have any problem with a properly modded Norinco, but I've seen too many problems with the Federal Ordinance receivers to recommend them to anyone.

I wouldn't consider a Fed Ord better than a late model Springfield. Federal Ordinance went out of business for a reason.
