So far I'm happy with my P-11 for what it is..a pocketable emergency pistol....I fire it occasionally at the range to keep proficiency with it.

My "main" carry (well...I tend to carry my P-11 very often lately, because of the small size) is a full size Bersa Thunder in .40 and I'm on the prowl for a good Beretta 96 (.40 as well obviously)

Few days ago I saw a Kel Tec P-40 (it looks like new with a box) at the gun shop where I buy many of my firearms, the shop owner told me it would trade my P-11 with the P-40 at par (he asks only $20-30 for "paperwork").

The reason for the trade would be to "harmonize" my handgun caliber selection.....getting rid of the 9mm which I have no other use other the little P-11....I do not reload and with current ammo prices, it would be convenient.

However, I'm suspicious of the short commercial life span of that model...I searched on the web and I could not find any info about potential weakness of the pistol other than the obvious fact that it is quite a handful to shoot.

I even called Kel-Tec trying to probe the reason of the P-40 demise....."lack of market interest" was the answer.....no particular problems and the pistol is still supported (parts and magazines)

What is your take on this?? Should I trade?? Better not bother?? Does anybody on THR had any experience with the P-40??

Thank you

Regards

My p11 is my daily carry, I would consider buying a p40 if I saw one but I wouldn't give up my p11 for it. You have to wonder why he'd be willing to trade a used p11 for a new p40?

That P40 is not new....used but in excellent conditions...like my P11...

have a p11--years after it was introduced i still have it

had a p40--for 3 days; 1 range trip and returned it Monday.
if you are not sensitive to recoil and already have lots of trigger time with the 40, than a p40 may work with you. but the reason it is like-new-in-the-box is likely that its the one someone like me returned:D

glock makes a baby 40 and that also got returned the next day.

a Sig p239 in 40.....now, thats a gun!! i only shoot factory power SD rounds (or my full power re-loads) in it and it no hurt me at all. accurate enuf for IDPA also. so its a little bigger and heavier and holds but 8 rounds. in the proper holster you don't notice the weight. and id rather have a gun i can practice a lot with--and hit accurately with 8 than struggle with 10.

Hold up your strong hand with thumb and forefinger spread wide and have a friend smack you in the web between with a steel pipe. If that was fun then make the trade but if not you might want to stick with your P11. That P40 will be a lot more than snappy.

one of the main issues with the p40 is feedramp related....smaller bullets tend to feed better....also keep in mind, the loss in round count....9 is a lot cheaper to shoot....yes it is a hand cannon, very likely to limp wrist...did i talk you out of it?????

I have a p-11 and would not buy or trade for a p-40. Rather have a pistol with more rounds that can be placed on target quicker with the 9mm + with the s&w 59 mags I have 15 rounds for backup. I have a glock 40 and shoot a friends 26. I can fire with more cintrol with the 9mm version of the same pistol and it wieght 5 to 6 oz more that p-40. I think KT stopped make them for a reason.

The p40 was a unique production for Keltec. They don't make them anymore because it was determined that they couldn't hold up even short term. You'll have problems finding parts. Feeding problems galore also.

If you have the funds, I'd check out an xd40 sub compact.

I've got the P-11 and 40 S&W conversion. The conversion with 9mm mags works fine.

I seldom use the conversion because it kicks bad.
