Trading a rifle with Gander Mountain?

I've done it and they offered the same as my local shops did for the trade in value. They did straight up trade a Weatherby MK V stainless 99% for a Browning BAR MK II with BOSS new. I was pleased enough but that was 8 years ago. I haven't been impressed with their prices lately.

no, they will offer you about 50% of what you could get at a gunshow, or being patient. The ball is in their court, they don't need your gun.

I don't know about the raw numbers, but the folks at the local GM will tell you what they can offer, and why they can offer that much(Condition, why they rated it that condition, resale price, their profit). I've heard them quite often say that a seller could get more if they tried to sell privately, at a show, etc.

*edit* Even if you don't sell/trade with them, its a decent indicator of potential sale value, and local market. Sometimes, local markets just don't support certain firearms, so what you could get elsewhere, is not what you could get locally.

last week i asked a guy who i know has worked there for a while ( see him in there all the time last year or so) he told me for a trade in it was 70% of blue book value? i have never done this with them but that is what the man said? this was in tyler texas

Sounds right. Say it's in Very Good condition, they then offer 70%(or near that, could be a tad higher but I think 70% is right) to account for their profit.

I haven't been to tons of dealers, but they all seem to offer less, so they can make a profit. How much less exactly varies by dealer, of course. I know of a local owned place that offers 80-85%, but they accept less in trades as they just don't move as much stock.
