The dumbest trade?

I've got three... (OK, so I tend to be dumb about guns)
#1 - Sold the shotgun my Dad gave me for my 16th birthday
#2 - Sold Dad's 32" Belgian Browning 12ga Auto-5 (Aaaaargh!) :banghead:
#3 - Traded a job of fixing a guy's computer for a Ruger 44 Mag Stainless Super Blackhawk. Took me six days to get that #$%@*# computer running right. Turned out to be the most expensive gun I ever got.

I traded a olympic arms CAR to my dealer for a horten hunter set up- I only had 400.00 in it so it was not bad- untill they passed the assault weapons ban a couple months later :banghead: It took me years before I got anything close- but the horten has gotten several deer so its not a bad thing.

I don't think I made other "bad" trades - I don't trade much

Well that has to be the trade that involved me giving up a well appointed 1991A1 .45 ACP for a POS Sporter job on a Remington 03A3. I did it to appease my now Ex-Wife, and I miss the gun more than the wife.
I aslo outright sold a genuine E-Bloc SKS early on in the relationship and am sorry I did that too.
P.S. The person I traded with is occaisionally on this board, so if you are reading this, I would be willing to work out a deal to get the .45 back but only if it involves the rifle, and some cash from my end.

Traded my 30.06 for...

Back in '76 or 77 I traded my mauser VZ24 based '06 with scope for a Rem 870 12 guage. Kept the shotgun for a few months and sold it. But had the big bruise on my butt for about 30 years from kicking my self for trading a gun my dad gave me. Just last year I tracked down ol Hoss and he was kind enough to put an end to my anguish and sold the rifle back to me for less than $200. A good friend that Hoss. A stupid little girl me....

My sister-in-law came over ragging about her husband always picking up empty Marlboro packages when they were out walking together. She complained that he never sent them in anyhow. My wife later told me that the reason he never sent them in was because then his wife ragged that the shipping was too much.

So the next time he came over, I asked sister-in-law's hubby if he was still collecting Marlboro miles, and I would trade him a pistol for them (a handgun was also deemed "too expensive" to buy. He thought I was joking, but on the off chance I wasn't, he brought them next time, and I handed him the gun and a box of noncorrosive Fiocchi ammo. He walked out of the house with two things he probably never would have had: a handgun and the last word on a subject with his wife.

So what can you get for 2000 Marlboro miles?? Did you get the inflatable raft or a jacket:rolleyes:

I sold an old S&W model 60 my uncle willed to me to buy my second glock 26. I find out later that he carred it when he was in Vietnam and actually used it once when clearing a tunnel. I tried to buy it back from the guy I sold it to but he already traded away:banghead:

Russian SKS

I sold a russian SKS, mint with laminate stock, still had paint in the stamped characters for cost, which was about $150 ten years ago. I sold it because I was joining the army. i should have just locked it up inmy paraenst house or gave it to my brother.

traded my Marlin 39a for a single shot shotgun.:banghead: Lucky for me got it back years later !!!!:D

Mine is actually a two part stupid.

First, I traded two guns, one 1894 Marlin in .44 Mag, and one H&K USP .40 fullsize for a parts bin Government Model, that had been nickeled to make it look all nice. grrrr...

Then, I swapped the GM, which while low on collector value, still shot just fine, for a mix-n-match '97, that blows the bolt off the action bar every time you pull the trigger.

Anyhow, that's the story of my $1300 '97. That won't shoot.

It's not a handgun trade...but I traded a Browning Citori O/U 12-gauge for a Remington 870 Wingmaster with two barrels + $600. Got another great gun and had $600 in my pocket but I wish I'd kept the Citori...was an extremely well balanced, beautifully engraved gun.

i traded a sweet S&W mod 19- 2 1/2 incher, for a really nice browning recurve bow. i couldn't shoot the bow anywhere near as accurately as my compound, or the mod 19 for that matter. several years later i sold the bow back to the same guy and took a real beating on it.

I traded $140.00 and 30 min of my time for a colt "colt 22" stainless pistol with 1 mag.

I'm always trading my hard earned money for the privilege of visiting with my local gun pusher. :neener:

I traded a Taurus 357 magnum for my S&W 357 magnum. The stupid part was buying the Taurus to start with! :( It was a POS.

Glad I've never made a dumb trade.

First trade: Lightly used NAA Guardian, 2 holsters, and extended 10 round mag attachments for a lightly used Glock 23 with 3 mags.

Second trade: A finish-worn High Standard Derringer that I fixed up (mechanically, not cosmetically), 2 holsters, and a full box of CCI Maxi-Mag +Vs for a Nintendo DS Lite, Starfox Command, and 3 boxes of 180 gr .40 S&W Remington Golden Saber (which were bought at a very low price).

I've been more than happy with both trades.

Sold, not traded

An Interarms Mauser HSc .380, for what I paid for it, $150.00. I was young, stupid, needed cash for a car I was buying, and got rid of a gun that put 3 shots into a single triangle from 25 feet. It always bit my hand when I shot it, but it was as accurate as can be.

The Doc is reminiscent and out now.

I traded off a mildly customized Colt Commander two-tone for a new Ruger P95 9mm. The Ruger was a real fine gun, but I miss that Commander that ran real well and would be a great CCW choice today.

That trade was the only time that I actually got money back while getting a NIB gun with trade-in involved. It made me wonder if that Commander was something special and I just didn't know it, but the gun dealer did.

God bless the gentleman that I had a trade with today, but I think he got the worse end of the deal.

He traded me a like new in box Colt M1991A1 for $500. I think it wasn't his best decision;)

I traded a fairly decent Yugo SKS with a black plastic ATI Monte Carlo stock + $250 for an H&R 1954 built M1 Garand with 85% blueing, one or two dings in the stock and ~40 rounds of ammo.

I had a good 4 hours of my life tied up in de-cosmoline-ing that SKS and changing out the stock. Gad! I still hate myself over that one. All I have to show for it is that 53 year old M1.

My dad made this trade back before I was born or just an infant. His oldest brother returned from WWII with a 16 ga double-barrelled side by side that he bought or liberated. The unique feature about this shotgun was that it did not break open like most double-barrels but opened at the breach by a sliding pivot cover. He gave my dad the shotgun and Dad ended up trading for a Winchester Model 97 12 ga with a Herter's Vari-choke. He still owns this shotgun today. I have often wondered what the value of the 16 ga shotgun with the WWII history would project today.

A really old but excellent condition Winchester saddle ring in .44 mag (that I got at local Sheriff's auction with the winning bid of $135) for a S&W model 65. Joe

Hello

I am full of stupid trades.
Traded a Glock21C +Eotech+AA glock conversion for an HK P7m8(used with a grind mark, when they were prevelent). Traded the P7m8 + $80 for a SIG 220 ST Nitron. Traded the 220ST Nitron +$250 for a Kimber TLE RL. Still have the Kimber, and have sworn off buying or trading. I feel like a real ass whenever I think about those deals:banghead:

357 Browning 92 in perfect condition for a CZ BRNO 308 with a trashed barrel to make up a lighthweight hunting rifle. My mate who is a brilliant gunsmith, but not a rifleman completely missed the point and rebarrelled it with a heavy 26" barrel, exactly the way he likes them. I was so shattered I put it on the shelf of the local gunshop on the way home. Never made it home, never fired a shot oout of it. Haven't actually swapped pistols, swapped a few rifles for pistols though, pretty happy with those swaps.

About 12 years ago I traded a like new S&W 586 w/ 6" barrel, .357 for a Russian SKS and got $75 to boot.
I kick myself every time I think about it.
