I doubt it would end that way. If BATFE is involved, they would likely send divers or tethered magnets to find them.

If you legally purchased or owned them and they haven't been or suspected to have been used in a crime, that excuse may hold some wieght. I don't know about where you live, but here we are not required to report lost property, because it is at our discretion. (Although I personally would report my lost/stolen guns immediately if it happened to me) I highly doubt the feds are gonna take the effort to search the bottom of the ocean and try to predict seasonal ocean current pathway just for your guns...I honestly don't think they would put in the effort. I only use that story when someone I don't know very well asks me if I have guns.

is such an extreme situation that it's nearly impossible to speculate on. Do you mean a California style "assault weapon" roundup, or some SHTF/"jack booted thug" fantasy? Or something else entirely? Honestly, I'm kind of surprised this thread hasn't been locked yet.

Don't some states require you to report lost firearms? That would cause you problems, at any rate.

I knew a guy who lived in California at the time of the AWB and he stored his guns in an elderly relitives attic for years before he was able to move out of the state. The relitive never knew they were there because he hid them while he was fixing her water heater and she was too old to climb the ladder. He stoped by to "check the water heater" one more time before leaving the state.

End of story. It's none of their business, and are usually obligated to attempt to use anything you say against you. Your best bet is there fore to say nothing without an attorney.

Some states require you to keep written records of face-to-face transfers. In Illinois, for example, the seller must keep a copy of the recipient's FOID card and a record of the transaction for 10 years. If more time has passed, you can simply say that the guns were sold and you no longer have information as to who you sold them to. If you are within the 10-year period, however, you would be required to produce a written record of the sale, so the "I sold that gun" story won't work.

well, if they know to come to you about a gun, chances are they have the gun already, (serial numbers) otherwise they shouldnt have anway of identifying you for anyreason, so if they have the gun... the boat thing aint gonna work

The safest place to hide anything is "off warrent". If the wrong bunch came to power and outlaws __________ for example, the best place to hide ________ is on someone elses property where the search warrant does not apply. A relitives home, your church, your gym locker, your parents home, at work (provided you don't own the business) or even on public property.

The problem with any kind of legal maneuver is that it assumes the rules will apply, when at least one of the rules (2nd Amendment) held above all others is being ignored.
