Hey everyone. As this is my first post on this board, I wanted to start by saying thanks for the wealth of knowledge that I've found so far just in bouncing around random threads and sections within THR. Y'all have made this a great resource for gun owners and enthusiasts and it is very much appreciated. I have a question regarding the training requirements for a CCW in the state of Florida. I have heard from a couple of people now that a DD214 will comply with the state's requirements for training even though there was no formal handgun training or qualifications. Is this true? I have every intention of going through a formal CCW class, maybe even a couple of them, but if proof of military service is all that is required then I wouldn't mind getting the ball rolling with the application process while I research the various classes available. Can anyone clarify this for me? Thanks in advance,

Steve

Yes, your DD-214 will satisfy the requirement. I have the book right here in front of me, and it says that a military ID or DD-214 is adequate proof of training.

It doesnt matter if you qualified with a pistol while in the service. Florida have very easy standards, in regard to meeting the "training" requirement. They merely wants to document that you have had some sort of formal exposure to ANY firearm. I have a feeling that they could care less about whether or not you can shoot worth a darn, rather its probably just a CYA thing on their part.
