Several questions here on the board about shipping a gun interstate to an FFL.

My hypothetical question is:

Assuming you have a dealer willing to accept a shipment from a non-FFL, if you're close enough, is there any legal impediment to just physically bringing the gun to the out of state dealer yourself?

I've done it, no trouble. At least on the federal level. Make sure you are in compliance with the laws of both states involved.

Speedo are you on the buy side or the sell side?

If you are buying just make sure that you don't go out of state buy a gun, then take it to an FFL to work out the paperwork.

My concern was as to selling. I think if I am physically present, at least with a contiguous state, I can buy it directly from the out of state FFL without having to bring it to an FFL in my state.

Negative, at least for a handgun. You must purchase from a FFL in your state of residence or have it transferred to you through such an FFL.

You can buy a long gun, but not a handgun from an FFL in another state. However, the transaction has to be legal in both states and many dealers will be reluctant to do such a transaction because they may not be familiar with the laws in your state. Call in advance.
