What other full size pistols offer a compact & full size grip with an extended mag, like the XD45 compact? I am looking for something with a 4" barrel and short grip for carry, and grip/mag extenstion for HD/Range. I like the concept of the XD45 compact, but not necessarily sold on it. It looks like the M&P45c offers the same capability. Are there any others worth looking into? I am not really looking for a sub compact (3" barrel) and sticking in a full size mag for capacity. It is more about having the long barrel with a short grip for carry, and the option of a longer grip for range/HD.

Thanks,

Bill

Dang, thought this was about the cartoon show where Megatron transformed into a pistol. :)
The long barrel short grip isn't something I see a lot, but my Phantom with the standard CZ75B magazine sort of does that.

Full size 18 round mag,

With standard 16 round mag,

carried, High Noon leather,

Is that what you mean? The CZ Sp-01 line, steel frame and the poly frame Phantom all use the 18/19 round mags but can use the standard CZ-75b 16 round mags, too.

Barrel length is 4.7 inches, BTW.

For what it's worth I've been very happy with my XD 45 Compact and I've been considering an M&P 45c (though I may end up just getting a fullsize version).

You can actually get the XD45 with a 5" barrel in the compact frame.

I loved my XD45 (standard) and it is still the only gun I regret selling.

I love my CZ and want to add an SP-01 phantom and a P-06 to my collection but for what your looking for i think a Ruger SR9c or SR40c would work just fine

I've always wondered why there aren't any conversions out there to convert a Glock 26 into basically a 17 or 19. Something that snaps into that hole behind the magazines where grip plugs are put. There is an airsoft gun like this, its a Glock 26 that has things added to make it a full size pistol.

This is what I'm talking about:

The mag part ok but the rest of it i just do not understand. From the looks of it the bottom frame is a modified G26 frame so that would mean filling out paper work unless it attaches to a factory G26 in some odd way that makes even less sense to me.

A friend used to have an EAA Witness polymer .45 with a full-sided slide and compact frame that could be lengthened with a full-sized mag fitted with a rubber sleeve.

EDIT TO ADD: It looked like this one (found this pic with some google-fu):

i'm not sure about the "longer grip" but there is a beretta 92 compact that's 13 rds. it has about 4 1/4" barrel. you can ask over on the beretta forum about all the mag options. there should be extended base pads of +2 and maybe even +5 and other options.

as far as adaptors that go over mags to form the grip, there's options for m&p,walther, glock,xd and sr9 compacts. the problem for you is most of these are 3.5" barrel.

You don't need paper work to modify a frame.

this Steyr M40 plus hacksaw and S40 10 rd mags

equals an S40 but with 4 in. barrel

or with original M40 12 rd mags (you can see how much I cut from the original frame here)- I've since made mag spacers to fill in the gap although really not needed as I can get all my fingers on the chopped frame with no pinky dangle

I've also seen this done with Springfield XD and Glock compacts using the SC mags but you wind up with a really short grip. I think the Steyr is ideal because I like to have all my fingers on the grip. The whole project only took about 45 minutes including some careful measuring, and I'm no gunsmith or machinist- just a guy with a plan and a hacksaw!!

I took my Glock 22 .40 and cut the grip down to the size of a G27 . So I now have the full size slide and a grip of a baby glock . If you notice the shadowy look of the frame , it is because it was a RTF frame and I sanded it down to make it less aggressive . This ended up being my favorite carry gun I have .
