How do you transport your ammo and guns to the range when you go.I have a jeep cherokee sport and I put both in the rear section of the vehicle.I have a gun case with seperate compartments that can be locked.Guns in one compartment and locked, ammo in another compartment also locked.I checked the N.J.S.P. site on the internet, and I interpet the info and believe that I am doing the correct thing by transporting them in this way.Any feedback would be helpful.:scrutiny:

I got a Blazer..almost the same deal. When I go to the range, I use two locking cases. One with the pistols and the other with the ammo. Both locked of course. I keep them in the back of the Blazer...And I dont give anyone a reason to pull me over:cool:

I recently picked up a Beretta CX4 Storm. Thats got it's own case. I lock that as well.

Maybe I am misunderstood,I am using one case with two individual(seperate compartments in the same case)which have thier own seperate locks.

That seems to be fine. Separate gun and ammo and each under it's own lock.

You are correct, that is how the law reads.

When I transport, my guns are cased in the back of my van and my ammo is in a box in the passenger compartment. I always keep them seperate. For no other reason than that is how I do it.

You are safe as you are. As long as there is a lock between you and the gun you are in compliance with the law. I'm in Louisville for the NRA convention right now but when I get back home I can print the statute out for you. If you want to look it up online its 2C:39-5 which basically says "thou shalt not carry a piece" and 2C:39-6 which is the exemptions to 2C:39-5.

Just keep in mind that they changed the transport laws. Pretty much the way it reads they expect you to go directly from point "A" to point "B" without stopping. If you're transporting a firearm and stop for a medical emergency you can be arrested. Pretty F-up if you ask me.

This is not new. That provision was in there when I went through the police academy almost 30 years ago.

This is easy to get around. Just don't do anything stupid that will attract our attention and we'll never know that you're there!

I have heard this time and time again but with 4 years as a municipal police officer and 22 years as a Federal LEO in NJ I have never known anyone who was arrested because they stopped at Dunkin Donuts on the way home from the range.

The correct response is:

Just don't do anything stupid that will attract our attention and we'll never know that you're there!

Get out of New Jersey

Just get out. The entire topic and the matter of fact way you accept the right of the state to prevent you from having the means of self defense is appalling.

Move to Pennsylvania if you need to keep working in the PRNJ. Or just about anywhere in the south. I moved to North Carolina. Our laws aren't perfect, but you can get a concealed carry permit and transport your firearms without restrictions.

Come and enjoy some freedom. Move to Eastern North Carolina and I'll take you to the range.

Really, move back? Why? I hate that state and make every effort to avoid it when traveling from New England and going south. NJ is so retarded that you can't even pump your own gas. ***? Oregon is like that, too, but I could see if it were for "environmental reasons". NJ is already trashed out with much urban blight. Barely more than a strip of I-95. Sure, they may have some decent food, but nothing worth living there for.

We almost made it through a whole NJ thread without hearing the "get out of NJ" crap. How about you stay where you are:neener:
