I'm going on a quick trip from NJ to Lansing mi to pick up a trailer.
My questions, I have my fl card witch is good in pa of course (familiar w/ pa laws) any info on Ohio and MI I should be aware of. I was reading packing.org and from what I gather mi does not accept a Florida non-res permit. But Florida does not issue res/non res permits. What is the solution to my dilemma? Do I need to disarm in MI or not. And If I do, what do they classify as storage in a vehicle? Driving a truck w/ back seat and no cap on the back so no trunk.
Help please:confused:
Also any gun/mag restrictions?
carrying a usp compact 9mm 13plus1

I know Michigan recognizes all resident CPL permits from other states through reciprocity. However, I don't believe non-resident CPL's are recognized. I am not 100% sure about that.

As far as veichle storage - if you have a trunk, pistols go there. If not, it goes in the back (cased preferably), unloaded, and inaccessable to the driver as long as it transported for lawful purposes.

Fromthe Michigan State Police:

http://www.michigan.gov/msp/0,1607,7-123-1591_3503_4654-10957--,00.html

Non-residents of Michigan wishing to carry a concealed pistol in Michigan:

If you are a non-resident of Michigan with a valid concealed pistol permit from your home state, Michigan will recognize your permit. However, you must carry in conformance with any and all restrictions appearing on the permit. You are subject to Michigan’s concealed pistol law including but not limited to restrictions on where a concealed pistol may be carried. Please review the information provided on this website for further information.

Enjoy Lansing, while your here. All the best places to eat cheaply are in East Lansing. Don't wear blue and yellow. Enjoy the one-way streets...

Oh, and avoid the Saginaw and MLK area after dark...

I'm leaving nj friday night, geting there on saturday morning then leaving. Two drivers non-stop on the way there. stopping at family in ohio on the way back.
So what your saying is don't go crusin mlk with a truck and 40' boat trailer:D
Thanks for the info. Guns going with the trip I'll just have to case it in MI:cuss:
I looked at the MI state police web site and it makes mention to open carry being legal? *** Over.
Although I have no desire to open carry in an unknown place. Thats what wall mart is for:D
MCL 28.422 No license is needed to carry a pistol as long as it is exposed. However, should a person cover the pistol during inclement weather with a jacket or coat or get into a vehicle, the pistol would be concealed, and the carrier would place himself in jeopardy unless he possessed a concealed pistol permit. Per Attorney General's opinion #3158 dated February 14, 1945, a holster, in plain view, is not considered concealed. Department of Natural Resources regulations require a person to have a valid Michigan hunting license if in an area inhabited by wildlife, while in possession of a firearm.

Open carry is legal but would be looked at real funny around here. And as soon as you get back into the car it's concealed and you'd need a resident permit. Safer to just leave it encased in your backseat - no problems that way.

Stop by MSU - we're friendly around here and we honstly don't burn couches that much. Just wear green and white and not blue and gold if you know what's good for you.

While open carry is legal in MI, I wouldn't recommend it without calling the local municipalities you are going through to find out how they would treat open carry. Chances are they'll say it violates some other law.

I must ask are they team colors or gang colors

Blue and Gold are the University of Michigan colors (U of M is located in Ann Arbor Michigan), Green and White are Mighigan State colors (Michigan State is located in Lansing). There is a huge rivalry between U of M and State :)

A loaded weapon accesible to you in the passenger compartment of your car will be considered concealed. Therefore, if you don't have a valid permit, you will be in some hot water. Just case it up, and store the ammo and the gun separate from one another, and make sure they are not easily accessible to you or anyone else in the passenger compartment of the vehicle.

Have a safe trip :)

If you travel on I-69 after it joins up with I-96, get off at exit 93 (Saginaw Hwy) and go West about 2 1/2 miles to the Keweenaw Pasty Shoppe and Bakery,
4288 E Saginaw Hwy. Its on the left at the first curve you come to.
Try out a pasty (meat and potato pie to go) and pick up a couple of the biggest, most artery hardening Cinnamon roles you'll find.

If you like rutabaga's (not me) get the original pasty.
