I'm traveling to Beaverton, OR, for a week's worth of training. I currently hold a CPL for WA state, but OR doesn't honor it. I'm (reluctantly) OK about not being able to carry, but I would like to bring a few of my guns with me, unloaded, cased, and in my trunk. I'll store them in a secure location while I'm at the training facility.

Is it legal to bring guns into the state for use at a range while I'm there? We're talking about a lever action rifle, a couple of revolvers and pistols.

Also, can someone recommend a range that is open in the evening in the Beaverton area? I feel I'll need to pop off a few rounds after a full day of absorbing SQL.

Much thanks for any info. Short notice, leaving late tonight.

Grimjaw,

Shouldn't have any trouble bringing firearms into Beaverton. Just remember that Beaverton is one of only two towns in Oregon that forbid Open Carry, just in case you were wondering.

Closest public range would be The Place to Shoot up in Portland, one exit away from Washington, it's pretty far, and fairly expensive.

You can bring your guns. Just follow the car/gun carry provisions in Packing.org's guide.

Also, PM me off list. If you have a WA CPL, I can assist you to get an OR CHL?

taliv, Portland I guess would be fine. I've never been to the area, so it's all new to me. I'm just hoping I can find someplace to get good sushi.

Eww.... that's an oxymoron.

Before I had the stuff, I remember turning up my nose at the very thought. Sushi just refers to the rice, though. Since I grew up the son of rice farmers, it's right up my alley.

Now that I've had raw tuna (good stuff), I wonder what in Hades they do to it to make it look like that in a can. YUCK! :barf:

Yes, to each his own. I'll have your share of unagi anytime.

Grimjaw, the best sushi on the westside can be had at Syun, in Hillsboro, at Third and Lincoln downtown. It's in the old library building.
All of my Japanese former coworkers swore it was the best, just like home.
It is an Izakaya-style restaurant, the best in Oregon IMHO. It's just like being in Japan, and eating there brings back fond memories of my trips over there.

Ranges are few and far between in Oregon, sadly. But we gots lots and lots of woods. We go shootin' out there. but it won't do you any good after a day of SQL...its all dark out there!

I have looked at Packing.org and its on the ball.

As for Sushi, if you find yourself in Portland, we have Kappaya at 34th and Division...exceptional sushi, huge portions and reasonably priced.

Enjoy your stay in Oregon. Buy lots of stuff...no sales tax!

IGB, what's the other one?

Beav town is a pretty upscale 'burb'.

Nematocyst-870,

Portland is the other one.

There is some question as to whether or not you can do it if you have a CHL, but I wouldn't risk it in that liberal haven.

As for Beaverton, I used to live there, when we first moved up here. In the last couple months before moving to Tualatin, the bank across the street was robbed 3 times, there was 2 carjacking attempts just done the road, a girl was attacked by a guy with a crowbar ( I think it was a crowbar) across the street, and there was a very violent home invasion with shots fired only a few blocks away.

And that was in the "upscale" Murray Hill area.
